Just finishing up my steering column and drag link and have a measurement question.

I read here that the drag link should be 33.7 inches from the center of the pitman arm ball to the center of the tie rod. Right now mine is exactly 33 inches.

It seems tight right now, but I suppose I could adjust it another .7 inches.

My question is, is there a range, or does it need to be exactly 33.7? Could there be too much pressure on the pitman arm?

I have a stock .67 btw. Second picture of the teq is just something I noticed. Cool!

I bet the real answer in in the factory manuals. I suspect that the length affects how tight it turns left vs right - ideally it would be the same for both.

I am looking in there right now, actually . I can't find anything about the drag link length. I will keep digging, though.

Google this "toyota fj40 drag link adjustment" lots stuff plus links to place here on mud

I'd consider these dimensions a starting point. You want the steering box centered to start. You may have to make adjustments then roll the vehicle back and forth to re-center the wheels and box. Hopefully a PO didnt pull the steering wheel to center it. As someone else said, these adjustments make the the vehicle turn equally in both directions and to insure the box rides in its center.
