Door Card clip help

I ordered some door card clips to replace my 40's door cards and I'm having a super hard time getting the plastic plugs into the door holes. They were an EBay purchase, so maybe that's the underlying issue, just not oem so out of spec?
I searched and checked the FAQ, but didn't see anything specific to the plastic plugs.

Anyway, if anyone has any tips for getting the plastic plugs into the doors, I'd love to hear them!
