It actually has a door switch?

That was my question as well, the lights on my '77 come on when I open the door, but only when I then reach up and flip the switch.

Hi , got a question on cargo lights. Is there suppose to be a dome light on the hard top that works off the cargo light? I started removing things from my dash and found a bulb in the cargo light switch.
I have a 76 FJ40.

I'm not sure what you mean by cargo light? There is a dome light on the B pillar on some of the FJ40s, mine has door switches and that is what this thread is talking about. I know the FST had a dome light that was built into the dash. Is that what you are talking about?

Thanks, the pics you provided are more than enough to use should I ever get far enough to try and mess with that project. I often wondered about having a light that came on when the door opened and now I have some ideas how to do it.

The switch says cargo light on the lock ring that secures it to the dash. I didn't know if its suppose to have a dome light on the hardtop or what. Maybe the switch is not original equipment, the switch itself has a small bulb under the pull knob. The knob has a red lense in the end, Im at work now and unable to post a pic. Just thought maybe someone would know.
