Does anyone else’s hood pop in and out like this?

Reporting back...I slathered every attachment point I could find with clear silicone, making sure it made contact with both the hood skin and the frame - some of the gaps were almost 1”. It took a while to piece together the 10 hood clips - everywhere around me had 2-4 in stock. She’s buttoned back up now with a clean insulator as well. I’ll let y’all know next time I’m in stout crosswinds to see how she holds up.

Good job!

Now pop those windshield wiper arms off, remove your cowl vent and clean out all the leaves/debris you will find there. ;)

I tried, my DS wiper wouldn’t come off for *anything*

Had to use a puller on both of mine and even then...they put up a fight. Not worth buggering something up if yours refuse to come off.

Good info. Mine does this in carwashes from the blow driers. I think the previous owner ran something over on the hood at some point since it is a bit wavy

This is what I’m about to try. Similar to a product recommended in the 80 forum

Is this what you used? I noticed my hood fluttering the other day a bit and I need an excuse to take the liner off to install the hood light kit I got off ebay.

No, I used a silicone sealant. I read up on the differences between polyurethane and silicone and silicone holds up better to heat

Well, this thread got me to thinking. I had noticed a flex in my hood when I used my random orbital buffer on it or the occasional no-touch car wash with the dryer. So this afternoon I popped the liner off, breaking all 10 clips in the process , and found the flexible bonding broken loose in a few places. I will be addressing this, this weekend.

You sound like me.

If you haven't already, I recommend getting a big bag/box full of the OEM plastic fasteners. I think I paid like $10 for a bag with 120ish pieces of various clips (fender liner clips, weather seal clips, etc...) It's amazing how many of these little plastic fasteners you find out you're missing when you've actually got a stock of replacements available!

This box of clips is great for the majority of needs but the under hood insulation mat is a larger diameter and isn’t in the box. Order the 90467-09006 clips for this.

Got my hood bracing and hood re-bonded. What a messy little job. A friend who is a Auto- body professional recommend 3M 38061 Ultrapro Seam Sealer. I hit every factory spot in the brace plus a few extra. I let it cure an hour and shut the hood, it definitely has a more solid sound.

Great recommendation, bought some.

Does anyone have any feedback on the sealant/mastic for this type of repair? I am planning to do it in a few weeks along with my roof skin attachment. Specifically looking to hear what you used and how it has held up over time.

I used this: 3M 38061 Ultrapro Seam Sealer. It does require a special application gun, at least what my buddy gave me to use.

This may also work. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b40067022/
