Nice finish on that item BUT careful people may want to know how it works so well ??haha
PS the chinese should supply these with their crap turbo s as standard !!

Hope I don't get cursed but ya I here you mud I've blown up three ct26s that's why I went to one of the cheap Chinese turbos last year.

There seems to be a big difference between a "cheap Chinese" CT26 copy and the product John uses that happens to be "made in China".

I'm interested if George and John regularly boost in the high 20's with high rpms at high elevation - like 4000-5000' above sea level. The pressure ratio change is dramatic and I've always worried about overspeed myself, although I seem to have done ok at 22psi sustained at those elevations. Mind you, I tend to keep the rpm down when I'm above sea level.

Don't get me wrong Adam I think your turbo is far superior to anything I have run,but I am having good results with this cheapo one.I did get it dissected for quality and rebalanced though.I run my truck pretty much on high boost (22-23) to maintain trany lockup,or just plain high speeds,on most hills up country. Mind you I'm just waiting for the big bang :frown: I have popped enough hoses to the point that i think I've got it just tight enough that when the turbo goes so will the hose:grinpimp:

I wanted to follow up with my results of running a Chinese Turbo for a few years now...

30,000 KM later and my Chinese turbo i bought off ebay for about 260 bucks is still running just fine.

I run about 10lbs of boost, inter-cooled with a few degrees of retard on the timing (mind you its the 2h engine not the 1HDT, which an important difference is, maybe the injection pump on the 1HDT is more suited to handle turbo fueling requirements and thus not over advance on you like the 2h likes to do when turbo'ed).

Thus my anecdote does not provide the 20+psi use case as suggested in this thread, nonetheless, its close and worth consideration.

Perhaps a side note on reliability anecdotes, or maybe inexperience on my part. I went through 3 boost controllers until i fitted the boost pressure hose on the cold side of the inter-cooler. During one such boost controller failure i witnessed 17psi of boost a few times.

I have been running Chinese turbos on my HJ60 (5yrs), Nissan Exa (12yrs) and my 24ft boat SD33 (3yrs).
All still running at 15lb, with no problems.
I also have a turbo on my plane, but that is an AirResearch.

Unfortunately I've gone with an eBay turbo. Got quoted "$850 and up" to get my CT20 rebuilt. A broke university student, and not wanting to dump money into the 2lte, I went the cheap route. Contacted other people who have purchased turbos from the same seller to get opinions. 3 of the 25 got back to me, and all said they were running fine.

Since I've swapped it in in December, (and the new 2.5" downpipe), its been running great. 6000kms. Dont expect it to last too long, but I'm not expecting a huge failure. I'm assuming low quality oil seals, and it will start leaking within a couple years. Time will tell. I'll be naive and pretend the intercooler will act as a filter if things go boom. . Its been balanced as it has similar balancing marks on both the compressor and turbine wheels.

On a better motor I would suggest you dont risk it though.

Quick update :

Turbo seems to be fine. Every oil change I pop off the intake and check for play. (have not inspected the exhaust side). Still spools to 15psi. Looks to have about 65,000kms on it.

So I started this thread in Mar 2013. I ended up going to ADP in Port Kells BC to get the original Turbo "rebuilt". I put a 3" exhaust on it from turbo back and pull a top mount intercooler on it. I took the truck to ATEB and they did the "Power Rod Mod" and tuned it right. 18PSI was max.

Last week the oil seal in the turbo went witch almost blow up my truck. I experienced a Runaway Diesel. Not fun at all.:( To stop it we put a garbage bag over the snorkel witch stopped the air. It reved out of control for about 2-3 mins. I need to take all the bigend bearings out to see what shape they are in. Im hoping the only think i need to fix is the turbo AGAIN. :bang:

So maybe i should have just boughten a "Cheap" Chinese one.
Ill update you guys later.
