Funny to see different opinions. See, i personally think it's perfect. Everything seems to fit snuggly in it's position, in reach. Just right. One of my friends has a new armada (i think that's it, whatever is the really big full size pathfinder thing) and that thing is like a container ship inside. Feels too big to me.
I've always really liked the "face room" of the 80's. That wind plow vertical windshield may make an incredible amount of noise, but it also puts a lot of open space in front of your face. Even the 100's don't match the face room of an 80.
The biggest space advantage of the 100 is the increased shoulder room. It feels pretty good. There's also a touch more legroom in the 100.
I'm 6' and I reckon the driving position is perfect. I slide my (manual) seat forward a couple of notches so I don't have to reach so far.
I was always taught to adjust my seat so that when my feet are flat on the firewall my knees are still slightly bent and when my shoulders are back against the seat back I can rest my wrist across the top of the steering wheel with a straight arm. I always drive in this position and I find I don't have complete control of the vehicle if the seat is back and I have to stretch to reach the wheel.
I know what the problem is.
All you guys are driving on the wrong side of the road.
The steering wheel is closer than I had in my 4R. I LOVE the seating position tho. It's like sitting in a office chair, more upright ergo design (100, 80, 120-GX feel similar in this regard).
Americans like a more "prone" position w/ arms out (like the 4Runner/Taco) which lends a sportier feel. However, I would crank up the seat in my 4R and position myself in a more upright position to a "80-ish" position (w/o sunroof, this is possible). That said, I think the 4R is a supreme pkg as well.
I feel like the LC's have really perfect seating position- which really helps while wheeling. On road, it is great for visibility. It's just plain comfy too.
If you're a big guy, try sitting in the GX470 for comparison. I think it has more driver room than the 100. I bet if you fiddle w/ the seat in the 80 you can get comfy. If Alvaro and Doug can get comfy....and I can get comfy.... you are looking at a pretty large scale of difference that an 80 can accomidate!
Honestly, if you are a tall person and haven't sat in a truck with a modified electric seat you don't know what you're missing.
This was the first mod I did on my truck when purchased at 38k. It now has 200k on it and I consider it to be the best mod that I have done to date. But then again I'm 6' 6" tall and my right knee was forever embedded into the dash.
I actually did both front seats so that on long trips it's a little more comfortable sleeping in the PS seat.
Landtank's seat brackets are the biggest bang for the buck I've done to the truck to date .....as he said, you dont know what you are missing. I'm 6'2" and the extra adjustability is priceless. I also like his design as it still appears completely stock. Buy em!
