I saw a link to a vender that sold this kit for solving a very common problem on land cruisers, the transfer case to tranny seal leaking/blowing by and filling the tranny full of fluid.
Along with running your transfer case empty on fluid it also filled the interior with a terribe smell of 80w90 oil.
I made this kit with about $6 worth of fittings
shopping list
2) 1/4 npt to 1/4 barbed fittings (male threaded npt) These can be purchased at most hardware stores. They were about 2.50 each at Lowes
1-4-18npt tap ($8.00)
7/16 drill bit (already owned several, found all the dull ones first)
teflon tape (we all have 8 rolls around the house/shop)
about 3 ft of 1/4 hose (i used lawn mower fuel line, it's resistant to heat/oil and being that i run a lawn mower shop it's free)
I used a piece of an old string trimmer outer drive shaft tube for insulation from the exhaust. It's probably fine with about 6 inches of clearance from the exhaust line but i wanted to be sure
2 zip ties (1 to hold it above the speedometer cable and the other to hold the heat shield in place)
2 hose clamps for 1/4 hose. (free because i have a million of them on the shop floor)
the rest is self explanitory
remove fill plugs
drill a pilot hole in the fill plugs
drill the final size 7/16 hole
tap
clean threads and blow out
put teflon tape on threaded portion of fittings
install fittings into fill plugs
re install plugs
install the line on your tranny and put clamp in place
put your heat shield in place
cut hose to size and put final clamp in place
have a beer and remember you have to double clutch now because my transfer case ran a few miles with no fluid.
Hopefully this will save some of you guys some hassel and alot of $$$$
some pics
the home made fitting
installed and ready to go
for those of you that already have access to the taps/drill bits it will cost less than 15 bucks to make
for those of you who don't maybe $30
you could go to the hose/hydro shop but they close the same time i close my shop and are closed on weekends. They are also down town so it's hard to get down there on my lunch break
