Very detailed instructions. Thank you for sharing this! I am planning on doing the valve cover gaskets on my 2010 GX460 for the first time. Looking through your steps gave me a pretty good idea how I can do it. A few questions though:
- I tried looking in the documentation you referenced in the beginning for "valve cover" but can't find anything, is there a technical term for this job?
- Would you recommend buying the replacement valve cover bolts?
- Is the only place where I need the FIPG in the front where the timing chain cover meets the rest (like in the image below)?
Thanks!

“CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY”

Check page 2344 in the manual linked at the beginning of this thread.

There are two areas for each cylinder head cover sub-assembly - 4 areas in total that need FIPG where the timing chain cover connects, as you’ve pointed out in that image.

About to lose my mind trying to find the correct part number for one of the camshaft bearing cap gaskets. So far I got the 11159-0P010 (8-shaped) and the 11159-0s010 (larger O-rings), there's also the smaller o-rings that I'm going to need 2 per bank but I can't figure out which one. A guy from Lexus parts department told me it is 90430-A0001 but when I try to verify it, it appears to be the wrong part for my 2010 Lexus GX460.

Use Partsouq.com for finding part numbers. Fill in your vin and then look at their diagrams. Find the part number (click diagram numbers) then copy/paste part number into Bell Lexus / dealership of choice.

Saw this thread after some research. Got a '14 460 that came from the northeast, then Denver. Noticed coolant was low, topped it off, the its down again.

Currently doing the valley plate R&R after noticing the coolant kept depleting after a drive. No visible signs of coolant leaking out (white and red crystallization) anywhere. The valley plate has no sign either, will use the gasket that's on the market now instead of the FIPG.
Radiator is getting tested as well as for pressure. Will test the EGR coolant also.

The thought came to mind that I have a head gasket that might be compromised. Possible the PO overheated the engine and didn't realize it.

Also, doing the oil filter seals and valve cover gaskets. They are leaking pretty bad.

Any thoughts on the lose of coolant?

Go under and look at top of transmission bell housing - you should see coolant crystallization if you’re losing a lot of coolant from valley plate.

If not, radiator - check plastic to metal transition at either side - should see some crystals somewhere - get a mirror and light and look.

Aside from that not a lot of typical things could be going wrong with this engine. How many miles on it?

Check undersides of all coolant lines, including the T connections back left of engine bay.

Does your heat work? Heater runs on coolant heat.

Other than that it’s head gasket evaluation - head gasket on high mileage without coolant exchange could break down the smallest part of the gasket - both cylinders toward dashboard, or the next two forward, but mostly drivers. Check for blue smoke out of exhaust, get an OBD scanner and check for misfire count, or pull plugs and scope to see if any cylinders are steam cleaned more than others.

Not very likely and would check transmission bell housing first.

Can towers are no joke - but you can do it and if you’re doing that the valley plate is easy and on the way down there anyway.

Good luck!!

@Cruiser Jimmy - If you can’t find any visible external leaks you may want to do an oil test in case you have a head gasket failure
