So I have a 74 fj40 that I believe was manufactured in November based on the vehicle VIN. I wanted to change out wires/points/ ect... When I look at the current rotor vs the recommended rotor on cool cruisers (Toyota Tune Up Parts) the rotor I pulled out is visually the Rotor Cap ~ 1958 to 8/'74 not the recommended rotor.

Any ideas how to tell which one is correct?

The motor block number is "H 573718 S"

The Toyota engine serial number should be Fxxxxxx, with the F denoting it is a smallbore F block and the 6 digits being the actual serial number of build.

The small dissy, with small cap & rotor, is used E-12/74. Trucks built through 12/74 are emission certified as 1974 vehicles.
HTH.

Jim, Thank you for the reply. Just to make sure I understand, The smaller rotor cap (69102-11030 ) and matching distristributer cap (49101-11010 ) should be used? How does that size impact emissions?

If you have the "F" engine & dizzy, you need these, which I can't use.

Also for future reference, the CCOT Toyota OEM part numbers are not correct. They transpose the first digit from the two sets of Toyota five digit part numbers.

Hence: CCOT rotor number is 69102-11030....where the actual Toyota OEM part number is 19102-61030.

Here is an EPC (electronic parts catalog) you can use > Click here <
