I made a discada a couple years back, I love it. Welded up the center hole, added some old horse shoes for handles. For legs, I welded on some 1/2" plumbing couplers for the screw on legs.

Chemistry of Cast Iron Seasoning: A Science-Based How-To - Sheryl's BlogGrowing up I saw people put lard on them, flip them upside down, and bake them over aluminum foil in the oven to catch the drip off. To my understanding this is a way to "season" new pans and create that nice layer without having to wait for years to build it up. I was curious if you did something similar and what you used.

I consider this the most comprehensive article and research on the subject, but people have their own preferences. I did this with a lower quality (non refrigerated) flaxseed oil and a couple applications, and had pretty good results. Btw, it may seem obvious, but don't place your pans on normal potholders after removal from a 550 degree oven, ask me how I know :|
Question....Are the steel discs better than cast iron ones?

Thanks Jason,
Thinking of buying or making one, might as well get the cast one.
What's the thinking behind the dedicated egg pan? I get having a sweet and a savory pan, but haven't heard this. The thing with cast iron and eggs is you should dedicate one pan for eggs only.....i use the flat Lodge skittle only for eggs..seasoned as mentioned previously.
I use the same cast iron pan for everything. Eggs and omelettes slide right out.The thing with cast iron and eggs is you should dedicate one pan for eggs only.....i use the flat Lodge skittle only for eggs..seasoned as mentioned previously.
