The other downside to line-loc's in particular is that they need a battery to stay on. Kill the battery and the the line-loc fails. This is NOT true of the Mico locks as some of them only need battery power to engage, not to hold pressure.
In either case what Elbert said about a hyd failure applies to both types of valves.

FWIW, the line-locs that I have used are purely mechanical in operation. They are a lever activated check valve. With lever in release position, brakes are normal. With lever in lock, mash brake pedal and brakes stay on. If brakes start to fade after winching for a few minutes, mash pedal again. They worked well on the tow truck fleet because it locks the brakes on all 6 tires. but they would fade as the system microscopically bled down or as components cooled.

Definitely not useful as either an emergency brake, or as a parking brake.

Jim,
Those are what I refer to as "Mico Locks" after the prime supplier of that type of brake locking device, Mico. Design and Manufacturing of Hydraulic Components, Controls, and Brake Systems Worldwide | MICO, Inc. The Jamar "Park-Loc" works in a similar fashion as the all mechanical Mico, though reportedly not nearly as well. Jamar Performance Products, Inc.

Categorically "line locks" are used in drag racing and require 12VDC power to continue to hold pressure. Whom ever wrote the wiki specifically includes the mention of the solenoid needing to stay energized to hold pressure. Line lock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Zeeboid_burnout.jpg" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/05/Zeeboid_burnout.jpg/225px-Zeeboid_burnout.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/0/05/Zeeboid_burnout.jpg/225px-Zeeboid_burnout.jpg

I make the distinction because while they do the same thing, how they do it and what is required for them to do it are considerably different.

JimC -

The tow truck line locks might be cool for winching, but it sounds like you'd need 2: 1 for each circuit.

I think NT should photochop his burnout pic & insert his new (how's it coming?) SBC Cruiser.

I want to say that I've seen a Mico product listing for a parallel lock, but all that I've encountered are single circuit devices.

I'm quite a ways from being able to burnouts. see update.
