Right-o, but man can they be had CHEAP... as long as nobody else is looking for the same thing at the same time! I guess 'don't pay retail' is the moral here!

We've got a dial pull-scale at the shop built for this type of thing, as well as a digital fish scale.

The mechanics pull-scale is MUCH better, mostly because it holds the highest reading and is much easier to get a good reading with. I believe it came from Ebay.
 
Guess this is in response to the "Real Men don't Measure the Preload" comment from a couple of weeks back. Xtreme is not only going to measure the preload, he is going to be precise about it!
 
buy cheap, after rebuilding more than 4 in a couple of weeks time I have never used a scale since. You'll get the "feel"
