My combination meter start acting up. Sent it to a local dash repair shop but end up getting it worse. The shop claims my electronic is the one starting to go out and recommend getting a replacement from junkyard. Unfortunately mine is KDSS version and hard to come by. Not something I would do if my gauge cluster is still working fine.

I end up getting a digital replacement dash from Alibaba. Might not be the wisest decision I made but since the GX are not daily driver anymore, I am a bit more willing to take a risk.
Bought this from alibaba for $386 plus $60 shipping and tariff included.

As expected, it came with no documentation whatsoever.
First thing I notice is l, it come with come with button similar like steering wheel control that is not wired. You need to connect this 4 wires to the pigtail in the back of the gauge cluster.
Key 1, key 2, GND and Led to Illumination

The menu selection are somewhat clunky and you must select "RETURN" every time after making selection.

To enter the mileage you need to enter password 0168 in factory setting
To change the from Km to Miles you need to enter 0169 in factory setting

It seem to have some ECU coding capabilities but I am unable to change anything. These was changed using techstream before. Only works for showing status. Can be disabled in setting page.

It have capabilities to show TPMS pressure but it does not seems to work.
Also have capability to show steering angle like GX 460 but does not work with mine.

Seatbelt warning polarity was backward.
Need to update firmware.
  1. Need USB drive formatted to FAT32
  2. Put the new firmware into the USB drive.
  3. Plug to USB port of the dash
  4. Turn power to IG2
  5. Unplug the USB once the dash reboot.
Unfortunate cannot attach the BIN file here.
The second file attached is a bin file. Change the extention to bin once you download it to a USB drive.

Mine is KDSS model and this does not have KDSS fault light. I have a bypass switch and it shows up as Rear Diff Locked when I put it on bypass.

List of thing that not working or not working correctly:
1. Tach is 33% slower than what OBD reader says. Looking for update from supplier as this is really annoying. Fixed. See update below.
2. The dimmer at 10% are still too bright for me at night. Not dangerously bright but would be nice of it can be dimmed a bit more.
3. KDSS indicator shows up as RR Diff Lock
4. MID Information display instant MPG, Average MPG does not work anymore. The gauge cluster shows this but the reading are not accurate.
5. TPMS screen does not work. Not sure if this needs aftermarket TPMS or what is needed to show tire pressure. The OEM ECU can read the data and accessible from advance OBD scanner.
5. The steering angle does not work. The data is accessible from advance OBD scanner.

Wish list :
1. Ability to adjust speedometer for tire size correction.
2. Ability to show transmission temperature. It can show oil pressure but 2UZ in GX does not have pressure sensor and only a switch.

This gauge cluster is mostly shipped configured for 1GR 4.0L V6 and 1KD diesel. For some reason the tach reads 33% low. Like 1500 is actually 2250 RPM.

To update the tachometer to read correctly you need to:
  1. Go to settings
  2. Scroll down to Protocol Update
  3. Enter password 4321
  4. Scroll down to Toyota Cruiser getconfig
  5. Press OK
  6. Check the tach reading. Mine shows correctly after this step.
  7. Scroll down to return
@M3GX updated the tach reading.

Looks pretty clean, honestly. I've seen a few other folks install these and have been curious about them. Like you it's not something I'd consider unless my OEM combination meter died but it's certainly an interesting option, particularly since it seems to have a lot more capability than the OEM combination meter.

I installed one of these last year. Same reasoning as OP. Had issues with my OEM cluster and replaced it with an AliExpress unit. It had issues at first, but the seller seemed to work most of it out.

OP, does your MPG and all other buttons work on the screen above the head unit? Mine is stuck at 99.9.

Wondering if we could compare software versions.

Just realized I have code B1628
This is for missing RSCA indicator that is part of SRS system. If this circuit does not exist, this would mean this gauge cluster is totally unsafe for North American maker vehicle that have RSCA View attachment 4053493

Did you have a check engine light? No errors on mine and pretty sure the last time I scanned with the Autel Maxidas it was free from issues. But I'll double check.

Found a bent pin
Straightened and it clear the fault.

This is my version

I saw your video and it did not see that code either. What year is your GX? 04 does not have RSCA. Somebody else that habe 06 does not have that issue either.
2005. That airbag light I only ever get if there's weight in the passenger seat. Or like now when I have the dash half apart and things unplugged.

Is there a Height Control light on your cluster? On mine it's on the bottom right in green.

Fwiw, I paid like $750 for mine a year ago. But there was only one seller at the time. I still think I was worth the price, since even refurbished clusters on eBay go between $3-400.

Mine been disabled. It does not show ride heigh control.

how did you disable it? I also removed my airbags and that entire system.
Mine does not show any option for enabling or disabling It. Have you removed TEMS fuse? I think it might be automatically enabled when it sees TEMS ECU is active.

I pulled some fuse, but will have to double check it was the right one. I think it was for the air pump.

A few more questions for you:

Do all of the Field Monitor readouts work? It shows my MPG at 99.9 and won't reset.

I also just noticed over the weekend that the RPM's are off by about 500. It reads idle at .4 rpm, while the Torque app reads around 700. While driving it will read 1k RPM, while Torque is closer to 1500rpm. I noticed the redline on the digital gauge is closer to 8k RPM, while the stock gauge is a little under 6k.

I had to do this update as well. I'll have to compare my update file the seller sent me to yours. Thanks for posting this!

Edit: Yep, looks like you have a newer file than mine

MPG works but only shows in L/100km
The RPM seems accurate. The .4 might be X1000 at idle. It might be normal once warm
I need to test drive it some more.

Is that on the digital gauge, or on the OEM display above the head unit? Mine shows up on the gauge, but not on the center console display.
