Hello Forum,
I'm in the process of purchasing a Brand New Upper Hatch for a 2005 Land Cruiser.
I'm in Pittsburgh and everything near by is rusty...

There are 4 Different Upper Hatches for 2003 to 2007 Land Cruiser:
- With Back Up Camera and Without Spoiler (Discontinued)
- With Back Up Camera and With Spoiler
- Without Back Up Camera and With Spoiler
- Without Back Up Camera and Without Spoiler

Of course, the one I need (with Back Up Camera and Without Spoiler) is Discontinued.
I also think this is the Most Common configuration for later 100 Series Land Cruiser.

There are Also 4 Different Upper Hatches for 2003 to 2007 LX470 (Different Part Numbers than the Land Cruiser Equivalents):
- With Back Up Camera and Without Spoiler
- With Back Up Camera and With Spoiler
- Without Back Up Camera and With Spoiler (Discontinued)
- Without Back Up Camera and Without Spoiler (Discontinued)

For the Lexus, I believe the 2 versions that have been Discontinued are the Least Common configurations, since I'm guessing most later LX470s have a Back Up Camera (i.e. Navigation...).

Does anyone know what the Differences are between the Land Cruiser Upper Hatch and the LX470 Upper Hatch?
They have different part numbers, so I'm guessing there's a difference.

The Back Up Camera and the 3rd Brake Light have the Same Part Numbers for both Land Cruiser and LX470.
So that portion should be the same.

Both the Chrome Trim for the LX470 and the Color Matched Land Cruiser Name Plate go in the same location and both have 2 locating pins. Maybe the locating pins are in different locations?

The Chrome Toyota Sombrero and the Lexus L go in the same location. Maybe the locating pin locations for those are different? If so, that's an easy body work fix, since I'll be painting it anyways.

I'm thinking my best bet is to purchase the LX470 Version with Back Up Camera and Without Spoiler, which is the configuration of the Land Cruiser. Will all of my Land Cruiser parts / pieces bolt right up?

Or, do I purchase the Land Cruiser Version Without Back Up Camera and Without Spoiler, then Drill the Holes for the Back Up Camera?

Any thoughts / assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Tom

AFAIK they are the same where it matters.
And IMO if you are buying a replacement and one with a spoiler is an option, GET IT.
The "spoiler" is more of a dust deflector. It helps remove the low pressure area the normally forms on the rear window by catching some of the air and redirecting it down the back of the car. And looks a little better than the earlier black plastic ones too. :)
IE: Keeps the window cleaner.

How I learned this: My LX no wing, my friends LC wing.
250 miles. All highway. About 100ish in the rain last summer.
I had to use my wiper to keep cleaning the rear window of road grime and other stuff from the rain.
He didn't even use the rear wiper once. And there was way less crud on his window vs mine on the outside of the area the wiper gets to.

Hello x8o8drifter,
I agree with you that the spoiler is helpful / effective.
My personal 2003 LX470 has the OEM spoiler and my 2007 GX470 does not have a spoiler.
The LX470 rear window stays much cleaner than the GX470.

The hatch I'm looking to replace is for a client / customer.
I had the discussion about the spoiler with my client / customer and he wants to stay spoilerless...

So, anyone have real world experience and know what the differences are between the LC and LX hatches?

Thank you.
Tom

Still looking for someone with real world experience and who know what the differences are between the LC and LX hatches...
Any help is greatly appreciated
:)

IIRC the dimensions are the same, some differences thru the year are which side the squirter is located, spoiler or not, badging, rear camera, etc
the size didn't change

I understand your situation as I live 75 miles north of Pittsburgh. I replaced both the hatch and the tailgate on my 03 WHITE Land Cruiser 3 years ago. After ordering and receiving a Grey Hatch, I found another mud member with a white set from a South American Toyota 100 series Land Cruiser. Everything lined up and mounted. When I went to switch the lock, the lock holder is different; however, the mechanism aligns so key fab and driver door controls are the only method for locking/unlocking. I share that to say search and you may be able to find hatch in the correct color to avoid painting.
