93 4runner seems to be not dissengaing fork in diff. Starts out in 2wd - grinding sound in diff after few 100 feet- may feel a little bit closer to pass side. Shift to 4hi - grind goes away. Was planning aisin manual hubs- but do i have to eliminate fork for ADD? did a search but could not find exact write -up
thanks for your help

The front dashpot moves depending on the position of the transfer case shifter. When you move it to 4HI or 4LO, it moves the fork so it engages the sleeve in the front diff. When you move it to 2HI it slides the sleeve the other way. The switch on the transfer energizes a pair of VSVs on the inner fender to switch the vacuum accordingly.

Best/easiest solution: install AISIN manual hubs. Then shift the transfer in the 4HI, ensure you are in 4WD. Then, reach underneath the front of the truck and disengage both of the vacuum lines on the dashpot, plug them both.
