I had tried Cetane booster from Canadian Tire (Formula1 Brand) but it did not seem to do anything exciting, the product is now discontinued from the looks of it.

Around here I seem to have the worst experience with Chevron Fuel, it almost sounds like it is mis-firing and I'll get lots of more haze from it on a cold start. I have been running Superstore (Mobil 1 now) diesel which seems to be ESSO but I have noticed a better running engine and cleaner exhaust from Petro Canada.

I am currently running Stanadyne Performance

Anyone in California notice any difference when they travel to other States?

The least smoky fuel I have tried is the Propel synthetic you can get in California. Zero smoke, no smells, engine ran amazingly smooth.

NV, WA and ID fuel all seem to be about the same amount of smell and smoke.

OR fuel from Exxon in Bend caused issues with my subtank being able to transfer to the main (acted as if the tank was empty). Had to fool the transfer ECU (gasser style system with transfer pump). Not sure what is up there, but it did it on two separate trips, and now shop elsewhere when passing through.

Is this blue smoke?

Started the truck up this morning (1995 HDJ81 with 1HDFT) and I went to the back and noticed it blowing out what looked much like blue smoke. But I am no expert so I really couldn't tell... I let It idle for a little while before driving off. At my next stop 10 minutes later, the engine was warm and there was no smoke at all.

I'll start it up tomorrow morning again to see what happens...

Also, not sure if it makes a huge difference but it is not very cold here right now. Maybe 5 degrees Celsius (41 Fahrenheit) in the morning.

Cheers!

Yes, it looks like blue smoke. An engine that is 26 years old is bound to have a little oil burn. It could be some wear in the rings, or some oil leaking down through the valve guide seals.
But the fact it clears up quick is a good sign.
I dont think there is much you can do about it, except a full rebuild. I doubt magic potions will help. Keep an eye on it and keep your oil changes regular. If it gets worse you could try a thicker oil.

Thanks for the info!
