Hey Guys
Has anyone ever tried installing a
Diesel Particulate Filter on a LJ73?

I am interested in trying one.
I could use some help.

Couldn't imagine it would be particularly easy. Would have to make a diy ecu to read blockage percentage and find a way to add extra fuel or control an extra injector for it to do a burn off.

Can I ask why you want to add one. Most people take them off.

I think that would be a first. I'm not a fan of pollution but I'm also not a fan of emissions on diesels. Would be interested to see if it can be done as I am sure there are others like you. Also would be interesting to see if mileage changes.
I believe that getting better mileage without emission systems is better than getting less economy but running cleaner. Just my opinion.

If you tune for a leaner AFR you'll run a lot cleaner. More boost without an increase in fuel. Nets better fuel economy too, as the fuel burns more completely. Same or better power.

I think the new emissions systems can really only work with the already efficient and clean burning common rail direction injection technology. Putting a particulate filter on a inefficient old IDI diesel like ours would probably just ruin/plug it in a hurry.

I never touched the afr before. My truck runs so good now with a rebuilt engine.
Not sure how to do it. Are you saying replace the injectors with smaller ones? Currently I get 500km per tank

If it's running good, leave well enough alone!

If you wanted to run leaner, you get a manual boost controller to increase boost (to say 12-14psi without an intercooler). Then you have to tune the boost compensator on the injection pump such that the fuel pin has more resistance as boost increases. This is done by tightening up the star wheel in the bottom. Tuning a mechanical injection diesel is a bit of an art, so if yours is running good, just leave it.

Also, I'm assuming you have the mechanical injection 2LT. If you have the electronic 2LTE, tuning is different. I can tell you if you're interested.
