Diesel in Tacoma

We got a very few number of Toyota diesels in the 80's and maybe early 90's. But they are few and far between. And a very small amount were 4x4's..

As far as Tacoma's go, they are a North American only model, and I don't think they have ever had a diesel option. Tacoma's are 1996 and up FYI.

Jerod called it.
Tacos are built for the USDM market primarily, all are gassers.
For what its worth, though, Tacomas get some really killer motors.

There were the 1,2,3B, 1 and 2H, 13b-t in places, 1HZ's made it into mine trucks in the rockies.
There were diesel Corollas and Crowns, too.

It's worth saying that you can make a Diesel Taco.
It would have to be a pre-1998 truck because of the smog laws, and IF you can get ahold of a 1KZ or 1KD, wire harness, matching transmission, and an adapter for a lefty drop T-case to said transmission, you could make it happen depending on the specific smog laws of your area.

I don't think it's worth it, though, unless you were simply a true dieselhead, and you weren't under the impression that you can pay off the investment of an engine conversion in fuel savings alone.

Were Them Diesel Rigs ,Stick Shift,And 4x4,And What Would A Model be Called that Had The Diesel Option.Jim

Most of the pickups were 2WD trucks, no model name. in the USDM Toyota just ran "truck" from 1978 to 1995, the the Taco and T100 debuted.
All of them were manual transmission, usually an L40 or L50.

They were very rare. I have seen two First-gens with diesels come up for sale in California over three plus years of searching.

I wish the USDM would wise up and relax or change some of the emissions for diesels. To me it seems odd the the "green car" of the year for the past few years at the international auto shows have been diesels, not a hybrid or an electric, A DIESEL. You'd think with all the folks wanting to save a tree out there they would figure this out. (For the record I am not one of those folks, or maybe I am a little since my loathing of hybrids and electrics comes from the fact that the production of those batteries is SO bad for the environment that the raw materials can't even be processed in the US... mini-jack over)

Also my dad has an 83 with an L in it and I have given him specific instructions that I get first chance if he ever decides to sell it, but at 35 mpg I don't see that happening anytime soon.
