I used this $45 dome tent in the Gibson Desert in central Australia and my son slept in the cruiser.
Only had one poisonous spider but he had travelled with us 1500 klms from home:D

If the ground is stony there are interlocking foam mats available.

If your worried about bugs ,spray some surface spray around the tent and keep it fully zipped.

I moved down to AZ from MT last August, and i am in desperate need to go camping. We used to have a camper, but sold it due to the move. I've got a 6 yr. old and 2 2 yr. olds, plus 3 pups. I was thinking about this tent and wanted some feedback, since I am new to the desert scene. I've got a '95 FZJ80.

I was also was wondering if anyone in the PHX area could recommend some awesome camping, preferably near a body of water and not in a paying campground?

Thanks!

Lots of places up on the rim between Springerville and Show Low. Going to be a little chilly at night till about the 1st of May.(Actually I remember waking to frost on the bag in July).
What part of Mt? My wife's from Dillon.

Thanks for the info, splitshot. I'll take a closer look in that area.
I'm from Bozeman. I like Dillon. It's a cute little town.

You want to camp in the desert, near water, for free?

Don't forget that running the vehicle w/tent attached will at best melt the tent, and at worst, kill ya dead.

Yr friend the CO police... ;)

Thank you sirenmoses for looking out for my general well being, but I am pretty well versed in how a car works, let alone a tent attached to said car. Plus, I am not a complete and utter fool.
As far as camping in the desert, near water, for free....well, there seem to be places like that that exist. Go figure.
