Hey everyone, first post and just picked up my 94 Land Cruiser yesterday. I did the rear heater delete today as I had the notorious leak. Got everything snugged up and when I took it for a test drive the ABS light and center diff lock lights are illuminated. Also, the speedometer is bouncing and not reading correctly. It’s drives normal and the diff does does appear to be locked. Any ideas of where I could have fudged something up while doing the delete? Is there a harness near that area that would cause all those issues? Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

I do not have a CDL switch. I assume if it was in L that it would affect gearing/drivability, non of that has changed.

There is a wire cluster that’s on the firewall behind the heater control switch that I manipulated a little bit during the bypass install. Do you know if that harness connects to those systems? I assumed that the Speedo was just a cable for that year and not electric

I believe speedo will be electronic. Sensor on the rear of the transfer case.

ABS is disengaged automatically when you shift to low range. CDL is activated when you shift to low range.

All these things share a wiring harness thst goes to the rear of the transfer case.
Maybe you have disturbed something, or have a short in that harness.

The large round connector on the side of the transmission often gets corrosion inside. It may have been jarred when doing the work.🤷🏻‍♂️ The speedometer and t-case wiring pass through it.

Welcome!

I'd pull the transmission/transfer case wiring harness off and clean it up and repair as needed.

It will be a lot easier to do on the workbench than underneath.

Thanks for all the replies and a place to start. I ran it in L and verified that it geared down and went back into H as normal. No changes to the lights or speedo. I’ll inspect the trans wiring harness next.

Yes there is a harness in that area that is notorious for causing such problems. It is bundled up (usually) and goes from the firewall to near the EGR. It is exposed to a lot of heat and the insulation on the wires in this bundle can get melted and any movement can cause shorts and "Twilight Zone" type problems like you're seeing. Best advice is to pull this harness apart at this point and check it out. When re-assembling use some heat resistant tape or cladding to protect. Also an EGR delete might be in order, since heat from the EGR adds considerably to the "demise" of this harness.
