I'm not a wealthy person but I currently own 3 Lexus. '98 LS, '00 GS, and a '01 IS (Technically, the IS is my Daughter's;)) . Purchased all used and they all have over 100,000 miles on them. Had the '98 since '01, had the '00 since '03, had the '01 since '05. Have no intention of trading or selling within the next 5 years. I may be brainwashed but I don't feel there is a finer vehicle made. I'm picking up my LX next week and will then have my stable complete! I can't imagine you wanting to sell it in 2-3 years unless you are upgrading to a newer model!

I agree. That's why I am being VERY careful, and taking my time with this purchase. Whichever LX/LC I get (and I have looked at 199-2003), I know I will be keeping it for many years. Do I invest a bit more in a 2003 LC, or do I goo for the low-mileage '99 LX, or do I choose somewhere in-between? The questions I am asking and trying to find best answers for based on what I see and drive.

Sounds like you are a devoted Lexus owner (like my Dad), who appreciates value. I need to have good value, and reliability as well. My trade every 2-3 years habit was due to getting older cars (over 120k miles), and selling before they hit 150k miles. The latest BMW (2000 540i) was a great car, but I need the SUV space and functionality.

Anyway, I see many Sequoia's and 4Runners, but when I realize I would be spending the same amount on them that I could get a '01-'03 LC/LX for, well ...

Thanks for you insight - enjoy the '02 LX!

Take the 100 you def. wont be sorry. And they last forever man!

Keep in mind that in the fall deals were to be had when gas was at $4/gal. Some on this forum got screeming deals. Then when it went back to $2, I saw values corrected. Supply and demand are factors too, I was wanting a 2003 and the prices are in relation to the amount available. I settled for a 2000 and I am very happy with it. I had to travel to purchase the right deal at the right time.
If you can afford a little more, I feel in my own opinion that the 2003 is worth it. If you are not going to wheel it in the difficult category, that is.
2000's should be under 14K with patience or you can purchase mine for 14,5 with 130K and I will shop for a 2003 - just sayin.

I like the LX 100 series as well. If I ever came across a white LC 100 series at a good price, it would have to go straight to the paint shop to have that 2-tone trim painted to match the rest of the vehicle. I know it's knit-picking, but that really bothers me.
That and the stick-on faux flares, what were they thinking?

I just bought a used 2002 LX470 w/ 44k mi for $26k. It has the DVD/Nav system, Center Locking Diff, and AHC. I still have a 1995 LC, bought used in 1999 with less than 65k mi, now has over 215k. I test drove a 2006 GX ($33k, 35k mi) and 2006 LR3 ($26K, only 20k mi) at Carmax. Thought I was going to get the LR3, GX seemed too small, too car-like. My wife suggested I test drive the LX (she saw it near her work at an indy dealer). We decided against the LR3 because of reliability concerns ($$). LX is much smoother than the LC, very comfortable, but still similar to LC where I know where everything is.

OK, so I have read all 4 pages on this subject, and actually have enjoyed the rantings of some and the useful information from all. I have an 02 LC that we bought used (was 9 months old when we got it) for a very reasonable price, especially since the the third row seats were still in their factory plastic wrap. It has GPS, chrome wheels (actually wish we had the alloys instead, buy hey, they didn't cost me anything), and pretty much every dealer option that came with an 02. LOVE the truck! It is the most quiet vehicle that I have ever owned and the most fun. No, I still have not purchased the Lambo, but you never know...:D

Have been looking at used 3rd gen 4Runners for my son, and have looked, quite extensively, at the FJCs. I love the idea of something smaller and something that I don't need the wife's permission to add or subtract from. She still "owns" the LC. All, in all, I am looking forward to hearing how this turns out, but once again, I have to say, "I LOVE this truck!". It now has 110K miles on it and I still feel giddy getting the opportunity to drive it. (This may also be because of my wife "needing" to drive it as her DD!)

Thought you might like that input.
