BRRRRRRRRR! You enjoy winter camping E?

Gorman area with the current weather should be down in the single digit or teens at night.

Hello to all Gorman goers
As you may or may not know I tried to go pre-run the trail this Sunday with little to no success it was snowing and raining. So the rangers closed the trail for safety, this was a good thing as I could imagine the traction problems that we would of seen in the snow. But on to this weekend, I will be calling the ranger and checking the weather report all week to make sure that we can go. In doing so will give a ‘Go, No Go’ signal here by Friday at 3:45pm. I would also like to get a roll call going so that I know how many people to expect, please e-mail me at rogers_ian@yahoo.com include your phone number so if there are any last second changes I will be able to let you know. If you are coming from out of the area and are thinking about camping there is a lot of room in Hungry Valley OHV Park .You will have to enter the park at Smoke Bear Rd, the Gorman entrance in closed. I would like to change the meeting place to Flying J’s truck stop at the Frazier Park exit. Still at 9am.

Hope to see you all there

Ian Rogers

p.s. If you put a top in I under stand, when the ¼” of ice in the windscreen would not come off I thought, ‘I think I should of put on the doors.’

Ian, you going to get rid of the baaaad mud that our friends had so much trouble with, right? :D
E

right dont drive into it. I spent 3hr cleaning my rig, and 3 more trying to get the mud out of my drum brakes. I think thats the last mud/clay that my fj40 will see for sum time. but in the heat of it i would do it agin.

I'll be there, you've got mail...

Man, Jim you Central Coast guys are tough. I've been waffling due to Christmas and work but I'll be damned if the NorCal group continues to make SoCal look like a bunch of surfing, suntanning wimps. I guess it'll be worth it just to see what Seth breaks, right? See you there too.

Hey Guys,

Looks like I will also tag along on the trip.................Now, currently it is rain tonight, and possibly tomorrow, followed by sunny days according to those very accurate weather :princess: The only problem I foresee is that the Miller Jeep Trail will be closed due to snow / winter..............and I don't think they will open for the weekend.

What is the current plan - playing around at the OHV park?

The "Los Angeles County Cruiser" club meeting is tonight, and our pres lives in Fraizer Park, and I will get the up to date info tonight on the general area. There are a few other trails in that area, that would probably have snow (and of course MUD!) for a back-up plan.

i just drove cross country in a full time 4wd 2 & 1/2 ton truck with no heater at 55mph, count me in! :flipoff2:

 SETHZILLA!

Joe, definitely post up what the conditions are and some good alternatives that will hopefully have snow.
Mike

i just called at 1pm and the trail was still closed, but they said that it was sunny and they thought it would be open by the 10th. So, lets hope for Sun and no more rain. I would like some help with a backup/alternatives. either e-mail me or post them.
Thanks Ian Rogers

I called today and they are all open, and we are GO Go go, so i will see you all at flying j's have a greatday and wish me luck as my starter just called it a day, im going to try to find one out of a 3fe motor but will be there no matter what. I think if i dont get a new one i can get the odl working. See you soon

OK, so what's the final plan?
This Miller Heep Trail thing?
If so, doable for a stock not-slidered locked good tires rig?
Without scraping my Moonglow????? (umm, maybe should take the 03 while the wife is not looking....? :D )
Anybody would take a passenger if the trail is too rough for my :princess: ?
E

you will be fine, see you at flying j's 9am

OK, had a look at some trail photos on the web. Plenty out there.
Brush does not look too bad actually, but some ledges, ruts, big rocks and all. Found some cute photos of LRs losing their axles etc. LRs, of course....
Even for the mighty LC, it does seem like no slider would be a recipe for potential $$ damage, though. Can't afford that right now, so I may opt to go for a ride along the first time to see what it's like since I'm a complete newb at more than your basic dirt road and I would probably screw up and end up with more $$ repair than sliders cost . Eh, this may actually be enough to convince me to get the dang sliders...

Anybody willing to take a passenger / spotter if it's not too much trouble? (May bring a 6pack even, if you promise not to indulge before the trail.... :D )

Btw, here is a good site I found with info on various trails:
http://4wheeldrive.about.com/od/socaltrails/
look under Lockwood/Miller. Has coordinates, map etc.

well i grooved my 39.5's in anticipation of snow and rocks then had to go try them out at the local mud pit of course. Broke a stub shaft and axle on my D44. Good thing i can still drive it in 2wd! The really funny thing is i had a complete Danna 44 axle in the back of my truck so i can easily replace it when i get home or even on the trail! On my way to pick up a 14 bolt mini spool from Poly Performance as soon as i get the other 44 axles in place, see you all at the truck stop in the morning! Hey what is the exit # or sign off the 5? and how far is it from Bakersfiled? Thanks guys!
