BINGO.

I just looked in the catalog. (Damn I'm good :flipoff2: )

09-86 to 08-87 FJ60 "WGV" shows a "deck board" very similar to the 1st generation 4Runner. So, they brought them in without a back seat.........:D

Dan.........your the man :D I love learning stuff like this.

curious if the back seat is Toyota or ? bet a new Toyota backseat was spendy.

so no back seat ment they could bring more # in, but paid the truck tarif(which was pretty steep if I recall, someone once said 25% on the 2 door trucks, that seems really high to me)

was there a limit on the # of cruisers(60 and 62's) that could be brought into the US yearly? I have heard a 5000 # but not sure if that true or not. as the subject fj60 was a feb 87 production and that early in the year they would not have used up a quota(if that true) so why bring it in the way they did?

I remember back in the 80's when the broucure showed the 4runner as availble without a back seat, was the DX or base model I think.

Dan, when you say catalog, do you mean the EPC or paper book? if paper.......hook a brother up ;)

I have now been able to see the label. It is undoubtable that the label references the addition of the back seat and seat belts. I would not be able to say weather OEM parts were used or not. Based on what I have seen coming out of there in the past I would be surprised if they used OEM. Their stuff is usually pretty cheap and looks it...

Pimp, my "catalog" is licensed from Proquest and is electronic. I might be able to score an old fiche for you but you probably already have one of those......:D

yeah whats up with Gulf States? they add the cheezy fender flairs to the 100 series.........PUKE :D

fisch.........LOL...........got em all back to 62, most were given to me by my dealer.........along with a pair of fisch readers.......but I was upgraded to a big ole Cannon printing fisch reader.........which Connie has marked to head to the basement.........;) need to get one of those James Bond looking briefcase fisch readers.......

paper parts books.........are prolly my all time favorite Toyota literature I have.....have most from 58-81, I am missing just a few and have no 8/81+ fj40-60, except for the aug 80-83 BJ42/FJ40 Collision and Fast Mover Quick Reference Parts Catalog, which is cool but not the same as the big paper books.......

Great information Dan! I sent Pimp a picture of the original VIN plate which shows a 12/86 manufaturing date with the vehicle type listed as "truck" .

On the rear seats: That helps explain why the rear seats did not have the metal trim on the back. (I'm assuming that all 60's have the rear seat back metal trim) I picked these up used from TLC in Van Nuys about 12 years ago. They seemed to fit right and the rear seats appear all genuine so I would have to say that the rear seat is OEM.

Now I'll wait to see what Gulf States comes up with.

And here I was thinking that just maybe I had a super special one of a kind FJ60....but then again, don't we all?

Thanks again guys!

Anything Gulf States touches is special ...........:D

Mines a JT4F and my rear seat in covered in vinyl not cloth with no metal backing. Vinyl all around and very round top.

Actually I kinda prefer this rear seat to the "fall-apart-factory-cloth".

:D

Ah-HA!!

Holy smokes! THAT's why I don't have rear seat trim on mine! And that also answers why the trim I purchased doesn't quite fit...it almost fits, but just off in most places.

I guess the time and effort I put into sanding and re-painting the trim will be enjoyed by someone else. I looked for the trim piece, new from SOR...it was like $150 for the top one!

Thanks for the enlightenment!

It is important to note the the VIN is not altered. the addendum tag indicates that the vehicle was altered by the importer and the alteration meets standards in effect at that time.

LandPimp ...

Did you notice at the bottom of the VIN plate one vehicle is a TRUCK and one is an MPV ?

I would guess the TRUCK's came without rear seats and were installed State side.

yup, that why we posted em, see Dan post yesterday for the explanation of why MPV and Truck.

Finally got the call from Gulf States. The rep I spoke with had to refer the issue to an employee "Jerry" who has been at Gulf States for 30 years. Well, this Field Product Engineer came up with this: There were probably some changes with the GVW or wheels thus the alteration decal.
WRONG!!!
I proceeded to explain to the rep the information I learned from you DIE HARD LAND CRUISER JUNKIES. Very impressed to say the least. So thanks again to this forum for the information and the education we were able to pass on to Gulf States Toyota for the alterations they did almost 20 years ago.
