don't know the term for taking out a lift....

the po put in a 2" lift. doesn't seem like the greatest. don't even know what kind.

anyway, the left front side is starting to sag. i am considering removing the lift and going back to stock. rig has 31s on it right now, so should not be a problem. don't really know what it would entail to do this though.

i know the question is why? i don't know i have a great answer except i really don't think i want or need a lift on it. don't think i would ever go over 33s as far as tires go. also, don't plan on using her as a crawler. mainly just a expedition/camping/mild wheeling in her future. plus the wife complains about having to get in and out with lift. lastly, i kind of like the look of stock height with a little larger tire.

i have no experience installing a lift, so i don't really know what would go into putting her back to stock. i have not done a search on this either.

any feedback?

You can get lift instructions and do them in reverse. You will need factory springs and shocks though. I have some that will be coming up far sale in about a week or so if you need. I just got my lift in a couple of days ago.

Patride71,

Can you tell us if it is a suspension lift (ala different leaf springs) or if its a body lift (ala big spacers on the body-to-frame mounts)?

Do you have any pics?

That's a tough call. Thing is, most OME springs - or any others - are cheaper than factory springs. used springs - man, I just don't know about that. Seems like if you went with an old set of used springs, you'd be looking at the same flattened/sagging problem you have now.

You'll need new U-bolts, too, and probably bushings (you can get the MAF poly bushings for about $30 and it'll do everything. I've got them and they're nice.)

As for installation, you can probably find a local spring shop that'll do it for about $100-$150 per axle, and you can have them align it when they are done, too.

I have some springs laying around. I just installed the HABU lift from MAF and I am in Austin. Not that far of a drive for you either. I put the lift on. It is less time consuming, if you have an inpact wrench. Let me know if your interested in the springs.

how about removing some springs from the crap lift to lower it and give ya a softer ride....the only down side i can think to this might be aggrigated sage....worth a shot though...

its a body lift as i see the spacers on the front. it has what appears to be maybe a rancho 500 (?) lift based upon the type of shocks. does not appear to have any type of add a leaf on it from what i can tell. how does it work with the body lift on the rear? all i can see are the shocks, can't id or see any body lift back there...

chrs_mrnd

got your PM. i'll PM ya back later today.

thanks for the feedback guys. i'm just "feeling it out" right now and not sure what direction i want to go just yet.

Rancho does not make a lift for a 60, so maybe you have stock springs and Rancho 5000 shocks. Or you could just be looking at add-a-leafs.

If it has a body lift and the bumpers are in the stock location you will easily be able to see them because it creates a space under the tailgate above the bumper. I can see my pucks very clear and mine are only 1in. So a 2in would really be visable. And any difference between front and back would make a huge difference visually.

you are right...its stock springs and rancho 5000 shocks.

i'll look for the rear body lift. bumpers are at stock location.

so how easy/hard to remove the body lift and would it require new shocks or keep the ranchos?

Body lift doesnt effect shocks, and they are pretty easy to do so I assume it would be easy to undo. I couldnt find a link to Roger Brown's website, that is who I got my 1in lift through. I esssentially unbolted the body mounts, used my highlift and a bunch of scrap pieces of 2X4 and lifted the body up from the rear fender well. Removed and replaced the stock body mounts and lowered back down. Tightened everything up and off i went...

i am not so sure that a body lift can sag at all. Unless a puck is missing or something. CHeck that first look on here for info. Your bumpers should not move with a body lift. Its not as huge a deal with our cars as it is with say trucks with intergrated bumpers.

I'm not trying to be rude or mean, but how in the world do you have 580 posts and do not know about lifts at all? I am just curious. I have been a cruiserhead for a little over a year now so I am still learning too.

ok. that actually sounds like something i could do.... :o
i'm kind of worried about how saggy it might be once i remove the lifts though.
seems like the lifts would hide any sag somewhat.
also, you mentioned removing the stock body mounts. so i assume i am in the market for stock mounts since they were replaced with the lift?

LOL...you got me dude. i know a little about alot of things, but nothing about some things. plus i have posted up more questions than answers in tech.
i'm not afraid to ask dumb questions either (hence dazed and confused)...can't learn any other way sometimes.

lastly, i ain't no post counter! :flipoff2:

My thinking is, sagging stock springs that someone did a body lift to get around buying an expensive lift for a FJ60. The main reason I have a body lift+ 4+ 1in lift shackles was to hold me off till I could afford the right lift for me. Still havent found that lift and have found better ways to spend my $$ like gears/locker/SM465 adapter...

kind of thought the same thing. the PO put lots of lipstick on the pig (desmogged w/weber carb, redid seats, tires, lift) and i bought her. live and learn. kind of scared to remove the lift now and see it really sagging like a SOB....

All the other goodies should take 2nd place to the suspension and probably cheaper than the other stuff.
I would put some new springs on with standard length shackles and get rid of the body lift.
That kind of set up suits most owners just fine

Well I want 35s so thats why I did the body lift and the extend shackles. By the time I do my lift I have enough lift to pull off 35s with a SUA.

I disagree that all the other goodies should take 2nd place to good springs. I would bet a 4.56 geared, rear locked, SM465ed FJ60 on 33s will spank the same truck with 3.70 gears, open diffs, and stock tranny...

Well,I was actually referring to Patride71 situation. He wants it to sit lower so his wife can get in and out easier and hes happy with 31s.

He says he wants it just for camping and soft trails, not crawling.
He also has a front left spring sagging that he believes will get worse.

So Im presuming he wants something highway safe that can do the long miles.
