Dash lights flickering

I'll go over the grounds again, and the alternator wiring. It doesn't seem to do it at all driving in town, mostly just on the highway that I see it happening.

I don't have a boost gauge hooked up yet (have the parts, just not the time), but I have no reason to believe it would be nearing overboost. Stock boost is 7-9psi is it not? Cold air can cause it to boost more than normal (boost creep), but not that much, or am I underestimating the effect of the cold air?

Factory boost is around 8-9psi. There is no way cold temperatures will cause over-boosting. I doubt you're over-boosting, but even a temporary hook up of your boost gauge will confirm that.

My 80 had flickering dash lights.
Replaced the alternator (with a 90amp tercel one, but I'm looking for more amps) and everything was fine for 50km.

Then the overboost light started flickering.
After testing it was overboosting to 16psi, but nothing was wrong with the turbo or hoses.

Finally got the light to shut off- it was the IP that was out and needed a rebuild.
I'm not sure if it was related or just a coincidence.

Now I have too much white smoke in the cold.

So frustrating. Just unplugged alternator and sprayed Deoxit on connectors, removed fuse box and plug to dash and did the same thing. Each time checking connection. Disconnected and reconnected all visible nuts on the batteries and visible grounds including glow plug and alternator cable connections. Dash lights still off when driving but come on at ACC at pre-start. All grounds I could find are snug. All I can think of doing is disconnecting/reconnecting grounds including bolt to alternator. But to be honest, I would think that would only be an issue if the lights never came on. That or just replacing the alternator. Looks old. Would not surprise me if it is original.

Just realized this is quite an old thread.
