I can still smell it and still feel the burn.
We would use whatever water-carrying vessel we could find, sometimes from the trash - then go to the always-running public park water fountain and fill it up - then pour our cup of water down the slide - - it wouldn't help much LOL

No 110+ degree days in SoCal didn't care about the water fountain lolz
The only thing worse was the rocket of getting limbs and knees stuck in the bars
Same with year round in Florida. One of my friends sprayed a full can of Pam cooking spray on our slide, another tried Wesson oil, and a third tried Crisco lard. Several of us came home with stained clothes, not just from the cooking products, but the clay and sugar sand embedded in the fabric from hitting Mach 2 on the descent on the slide.
