What are guys tying down that needs 2k pound anchors?

I'm actually looking for something like this bolt anchor, but with a longer "pad" (the part that gets bolted down), since I would like to use the anchor with the seat belt in place (second row seats) as a tie down point for a combination cargo net/gear loft.

Let's see ;) - 100# worth of dogs decelerating from 65mph within about 3' (depends on how much the cargo net stretches) gives a force of approximately 50,000# or over 20 tons  Hmm. Perhaps the 2k# anchor is too small for me?

How big is this mythical object? How squishy? How heavy? How long a strap are you using? I can run the numbers...

Please excuse me for geeking out here, but near as I can calculate you'd need to stop in less than a tenth of a second to get 50,000 lbs of force from an accelerated 100# pooch. I think you'd have other things to worry about in this scenario. ;)

Right. Brick wall, meet Cruiser. Obviously I'm not worried about my '80 series pads stopping my vehicle in 3'. I suppose I should also divide the total force by 4, since I will be using 4 attachment points. And the dogs will be pureed. And the webbing isn't rated that high. The things is, though, that the original bolt holding the seat belt should be strong enough, since three of those bolts hold a 150# person in the same collision. Let's move this to chat and geek out together.

In response to RavenTai "how about a ring that can swivel on 2 axis
"

I debated this and couldn't find a way to make one for under $50. If you want something similar, there are plenty of aftermarket options. I'm still trying to go for the cheaper route on this.

I'm getting a few machined up next week and will psot pics. I've redesign them to be much lower profile and hopefully will get your approval.

Also, these would work great for dog tie downs. I know must of the stuff we throw back there should be mounted lower. But my dog gets all tangled in her leash when I do that. If I mount the lesh up high (where the seatbelts were) it should keep her happy!

Understood, I thought on this one for a bit, I can see it and have some ideas, I wish I could use AutoCAD or at least have some drafting skills, but I do not. Still would require machine time and therefore $$.

If the thread was right (big if, I know...) this might work (316 stainless from WestMarine):

monteros have fold down d rings very nice very sterong.pick and pull very cheep.

Jasper, here's an idea I just thought of reading this thread- sorry for the poor sketch
using oem grab handle out of the 80 or newer Toy suv - you can use as tie down but also as a grab handle. I think it would look pretty if it was machined w/ nice radius and maybe the TEQ engraved in the flat? :)

Thats a great idea, versatile and semi-OEM looking, very cool.

Not to hijack, but what program did you use to make that sketch??? Or did you scan that image and then add the wording? also VERY cool.

it sucks but thanks- just a quickie sketch in photoshop

I dont know if the pillar is wide enough for it to spin all the way round...but I would like something like this...

In Photoshop? How do you "sketch" in Photoshop? I have the program, but cant figure out how you were doing this? Assuming you arent using a mouse and keyboard?

I would really love to learn how to do what you did there

FirstToy, nice sketch BTW. I know how hard it is to sketch in PS. You probably have a tablet.:)

I can make something like that also. How much are the OSH (Oh Sh!T Handles)?

I'll look into this. I can make a few different prototypes and we can see what everyone likes best/ works best.

I've been preoccupied with too many things lately (African Outback Rack, Starter rebuild, soon to be sliders) all for the Death Valley trip, I haven't had a chance to machine any yet. TBD......
