Any specifications on the helix or thread for the teeth? I'm going to machine my own, not just because I can and don't want to pay, but also because I have access to my school's tooling lab and my 1970 gear is different than yours, as far as the center keyway is concerned. Thanks!

Brian

Actually, come to think of it, if anyone is willing, $50 plus shipping and I'll make extras. I'm starting the roughing and machining to size on Wednesday afternoon, 2/13/08. PM me for details.

Gear

I will take one also. If it matters, I have a 1973 model. I also can paypal.

I will PM also.

Are there any differences in year models for these?

I want to know too! Now I may have something new to keep straight in my head.

If I can have someone take the measurements of the key hole, I can make the later model ones as well. Take a pic of your gear and send it to me, or measure the keyhole. If it looks like the gears on the first page of this thread, it's the later model type. If it's got tiny keyways, early model type, which I'm making.

*edit* I'll make both types according to what each of you needs. I'll need a couple weeks to make them but I'll keep you updated.

hi, I would love to get a gear, are you making the round gear only or are you making the worm gear too? my gear has two flat spots where it mounts on the shaft and no keyways, is that the later style or early style, my pig is a 71 if it helps. I sent you a private message too, thanks. I could even send you the pieces of my gear if you need them for measuring

If you look at the picture in post #31 you'll see the style of gear I've been making. If there are two different styles I'm not aware of it. The worm gear generally doesn't wear out so I have not made those. Is your worm gear bad? I do have a spare in my parts stash if needed.

GEAR

Mine is a late 72 ish/73 model. My window is currently stuck in the up position so I have yet to get the motor out and see what the gear looks like.

Not sure what you are refering too, but all the gears from different years I have seen had the double D shaft, and if you are refering to the insert(the metal thats cast into the plastic) maybe thats the source of confusion?

I need the dimensions of the "double D" type shaft, as mine is OEM but a different keyway. I'll post up pictures when I head back to the machine lab and take a picture. I need the dimensions for the keyway "double D" type though if I am going to produce the gears.

I'm surprised. I made probably 30-40 of the one type only and no one has commented that it doesn't fit.

Don't have cruiser guy's excellent gear but have two types of gears and the updated replacement.
But there were two types of motor and regulator gears at least.

The update uses just a molded motor gear with a regulator gear and E clip.
The earlier one used a molded motor gear with a regulator gear, two locking keys and an E clip. The update has a partial flat shaft and the older is fully cylandrical. I'd attach a photo (maybe later) but the stupid software on this machine can not resize...man I miss my photoshop.

Afaik: you can only get the update from toyota...why make an older style gear that requires two key's? Both will work in any gear box...I'd just buy a new regulator gear and motor gear from toyota...then if you want Brass...get one of Charles's or make one to the updated regulator gear....I mean you'd have to notch for the keys...whew what a pain.

Cost. I'm making a couple of the earlier style and a few of the later styles, if I can have somebody give me the dimensions. I have full access to our tooling lab, and will wire EDM the gear teeth, and bore then broach the key way. My OEM plastic gear is 100% fine but I'd rather replace it while I have the thing apart, and may as well produce some for others. If I can't get the dimensions then I cannot produce the gears. Cruiser Guy, what dimensions did you do? I don't mean to take business away from you, but I'm doing my gear regardless, and while I'm at it will produce more. Thanks.

Mine are simply straight copies of the one in my '76 that had cracks in it when I took it out. I'd have to get out the calipers to measure it again.

Brian sent you pm. I am not a machinest and have a cheap digital set of calipers but: Width of gear interior- .318" or .808 mm, length .474" or 12.04mm with the length terminating in the curve of the gear shaft.

.310" .786 for the width of the regulator gear, .470" 11.94mm for the length.

So, as said in pm, if you have time I can mail them so long as you mail them back.

Ok, I had to teach myself SolidWorks, and now need to teach myself the tool path program for the 5-axis EDM, but here it is. The center keyway for the earlier and later models are different, so I'm going to do secondary operations to create them, but production should start sometime at the end of this week. Once production begins I'll contact each of you to confirm details and which keyway you need. Thanks for your patience!

Don't forget me, I'll be watching and keeping in contact.

I'm still confused about this different gears for different years stuff. SOR lists one gear from '68 clear through '80. If there are different gears post up some photos.
