now this is my type of tow rig

Saw this post today on BCToyota4WD on facebook. really clean swap, said it cost him about 7000 all in (truck w/engine, new to him NV4500 and a couple other odds and ends)
He also said he has new springs on order

now I know there are some who oppose to this type of treachery....but you must admit there is a lot of nice work put into this.

This is getting really popular in Texas. There is a guy in Austin doing them. The fit is clean, no real cutting needed.
But the particular model engine used is important, the 6's being nicer than the 4's.

Besides, it's an 80...who cares. Now if someone was to blasphemy a 60 with this I'd be upset!!

Ya apparently it fits really nicely, this is a 6, would produce more more power than you'd ever need no doubt.
Nick, I think with some frame reinforcement and a tuned suspension setup, it would be a good engine. A built 80 probably doesn't weight too much different than a single cab 1994 dodge

Cummins is a good motor but it is heavy. I fear for the poor little trunnion bearings and spindles. Also the weight distribution would get a bit hairy, I imagine it would be like driving a giant pendulum. If you ever got into a oversteer / tank slapper situation getting things sorted might be a challenge. That being said, for a mostly on road vehicle like an 80 it might be a solid choice. :grinpimp: One can't argue with the cost, availability, reliability and ease of installation.

All in all a nice truck indeed.

if i ever did a swap into an 80 it would be more for road, towing and long trips for sure

It's nice they fit fairly well.

I wouldn't stress about the weight, probably not much worse than a bigass winch bumper hanging off the front.

I do like the suspension on the 80's, it's freakishly civilized on logging roads. Your flute of Perrier wouldn't spill a drip on a washed out section.

But, other than that, much like a 60, its basically a Japanese suburban. Meh.

That's a nice truck and a great/clean install. I've had a 4BT/trans/case squirrelled away for an 80 swap for some time, life got in the way but someday i'll get going on it. I'm a big fan of the 6BT, not in an 80 though, but sure would like to take one for a rip to see how it fares.

Its been done on 40 series and 55 series..
Not sure if it was the 6 but more likely the 4

keep us posted, like to see that. the only thing that seems to be consistent is the need for SOA due to deep oil pan. But I've heard of a
couple of guys in Texas who have modified them to keep it lower.
