Cummins Anyone?

I would love to have a high power cummins in my 80. Anything you would do different if you had it to do again?

Nope, not really. That 80 was for a customer. the only things I would do different are: more accessories. The 80 that we did looked almost stock except for a 4" lift and larger tires. And of course the sound of the diesel!

that is mentioned earlier in the thread. no adaptors avalable iirc

So the $12-$14k covered on an 80:

engine
transmission
transfer case
larger tires
4" Slee lift?
intercooler
part time 4wd conversion and hubs
all hardware needed to basically be driven out of the shop and home any distance?

How would this be towing a 4000-5000 pound trailer with all the normal aftermarket offroad mods adding even more weight (bumpers, winch, etc.)?

I assume you should be able to even run the stock 4.10 gears when towing 5000 pounds and running 35" to 36" tires with that diesel in an 80-correct?

My (admittedly limited) understanding is that you can do a transplant, but it has to be an engine that was used in a production vehicle that is/was for sale in the US, and the engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle into which it is being placed.

A good example is the Cummins-powered 60 that was on Craigslist recently. That Cruiser isn't old enough to be smog-exempt, yet it's had a diesel dropped in it and it has a California title. Some things can be done.

You might want to look into this further; my understanding is that diesel's do not go to “smog" in CA. It's a matter or re registering the rig that’s the problem.

But what do I know i moved to Hawaii, but still thinkin about it for whan i get back.

Hey Grease, any problems with putting a 4L80e in with the 4bt? Is there any demension or lenght problems that you have found? Advance adapters makes the 4l80e to the HF2A tranfer case with no additional mods and I would not think that you would need to beef it up at all. Plus did you get that cruise control wiring nailed down?

Since the thread got resurected, did this rig end up with or w/o AC. Is there a Toyota tranny that could be used here? What are the tranny/t-case options when going with the 4BTA?
