I'm starting a thread to show off Cruisers with a historical/interesting background and provide info about the location. I'll do my best to get something up at least twice a month if not more depending on my travels.

Here's my first.
In front of the last standing beehive brick kiln used to make bricks for the Lorton Virgina Workhouse / Prison and many buildings in DC and NoVa. It was built in the very early 1900s. See link for more history.

I LOVE this idea, and have lots of great places and things to ad when I get my rig sorted for long trips. History of different places is often what makes those places cool enough to travel to, and my cruiser will take me off the beaten path to share lesser known historical places. I can't wait!

In front of the Brentsville jailhouse today. A good stop for a haunted story for October. Even Ghost Hunters have been here. There were 13 executions at the gallows behind the jail and at least one documented murder of a prisoner in the jail who supposedly still haunts the jailhouse. And that is the biggest Horse Apple tree I've ever seen in front of the jailhouse.

Stopped by the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park and saw the Fredericksburg National Cemetery, Fredericksburg Civil War Battlefield, and the Innis House in Fredericksburg, VA last weekend. I also filled up on non-ethanol fuel while down there.

Pretty interesting history there. The Battle of Fredericksburg is apparently known as one of the bloodiest and most one sided battles of the American Civil War.

Also, took a pic in front of the Innis House where the Innis family was smart enough to abandon the house before the battle where it ended up riddled with bullets and the 2nd floor used by Confederate sharpshooters.

In front of the the United States Capitol yesterday. Regardless of the current ridiculous political atmosphere this is a magnificent building. When working there I've been between the two layers that make up the dome and have been out on the top. Fabulous view of Washington from there. I brought my junior mechanic with me.

In the one picture is a fossilized bald cypress stump from several million years ago. It was found when construction crews were excavating through a part of the park to build I-95 back in the early 60s.
