It snowed on Tuesday. 29 April.
So we left the house about 7ish on Wednesday morning (I live near Barnes and Peterson) and the roads are clear. It's cold but no big deal. Get to Woodman Rd and I get stuck on ice going up the hill at the Black Forest Rd intersection. Back down the hill. Turn right on Black Forest. More ice. Screwed. Turn into a driveway and the man who lived there let us drop the trailer. So at this point I'm debating whether I will get to Moab or even go at all.
Wait 2 hrs and now the roads are fine. Pick up the trailer. Head to Moab via HWY 50 to Grand Junction.
Get into the area and find a campsite off of HWY 313. Nice and quiet. No showers but we made do with some solar shower bags and it all worked out great.
Thursday morning we tech and sign in at the registration tent. We ran Fins n Things. Nice trail and got us use to the slick rock idea. So much traction! Lots of ups and down. Optional obstacles to try. The group was a lot of newbies so it was run really slow. Forgot the camera this day, so no pics.
Friday was Hell's Revenge. Fun trail. Good optional stuff and good mix of vehicles. Trail was led by Dan from Rising Sun. Nice guy and really good group. I would definitely run it again. Didn't attempt the Escalator or Hell's Gate, only because nobody had done it, and nobody felt comfortable spotting it.
Saturday was Kane Creek Canyon. I expected this trail to be really mellow. But it was a blast. It runs through the canyon, over and through the creek, with a couple obstacles. My truck is pinstriped like crazy but it was well worth it. There is one section coming up out of the canyon that got me in a bind. Nothing my lockers and good spotting couldn't take care of though. It was a tad scary and the wife had to look away. It's hard to tell in the pics, but there's a drop on driver side.
So after that, we load up, head home, break down, yadda yadda yadda.
But I got everything back home! Time to clean it up and get ready for the next run!
