so i have a '95 4runner, and the cruise control recently crapped out on me- it turns on and off, and sometimes works in 4th gear, but in 5th it wont set and the cruise light just flashes on and off... any experiences with, remedies for, opinions on? (im trying to avoid the getting frustrated and driving it off the end of a pier...

Cruise control... What's this cruise control you speak of?
As you can tell I don't have it on mine, but I do know on the early models it was a mechanical type system that had a module under the hood on the drivers inner fender, but they may have gone to an electric type in later models. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in for you.

You can run a troubleshooting thing on the truck it's self. Check the FSM linked in the FAQ thread, and look under the Cruise section. You hold down a couple buttons while you turn the cruise on as I recall, and it will check that all the sensors are working, and tell you what's not....

Also, the CC system has no idea what gear you're in, so the 4th vs 5th thing is not related...
