So my cruise control quit on me a while back, and I really want to fix it. But anything cruise control is foreign to me. So here's what happens:

I will hit the cruise button, and we're good! The little green light is on, and it will stay on all day...:D

Now we go to set the speed and twist the little thingy back and we're off, the cruise control works. But after about oh 5-20 seconds of driving it cuts off.:censor: (I found this can be very dangerous for the guy riding my a$$)

The little green light turns off as soon as the cruise quits. Now if you try to turn the cruise back on you have to mash the button about 2 dozen times to get the little green light back on.

*Repeat steps and same thing happens every time*

Thanks for any imput ya'll!

 sounds electrical. Check the wires to the cruise control module for corrosion, etc.. Try unplugging the module, cleaning the electrical contacts with an contact cleaner and plugging it back together.

BTW: In the FAQ is a link to a FSM for your truck. There is a troubleshooting section for the cruise control. Stuff like the brake warning light being on will kill the cruise control, but the symptoms are different. In that situation it won't run at all.

X2 what Bogo said, run through the trouble shooting section for the CC int eh FSM. It even has a self diagnosis thing like pulling trouble codes. Sounds electrical to me too... However, the Cruise system I put into my 89 had a lot of dry rotted holes in the diaphragm (which I siliconed up...) so you may want to look inside that just to be sure it's not contributing to the problem...

:hhmm:Interesting. The unit uses vacuum to move the actuator. If it leaks to much, it could affect something else that relies on vacuum. If that something was something that when it fails, the cruise control shuts down, I could see the symptoms happening that he is seeing.
