I've been hemming and hawing regarding my 1977 FJ55 and what to do.

The front supports have rusted out and I can no longer drive, never mind wheel, my 55.

As you can see in the photos, the previous owner did a quick fix that held up for at least 5 years. A new mount would need to be fabricated and attached to the rest of the front end.

I know anything can be repaired with sufficient time and money but I figure the next weak spot will give and I'll be repairing it again.

So what do I do? Sell both 55's and put the money into the HJ60 for wheeling?

None of the vehicles are without their issues regarding rust.

Sell all 3 Cruisers and find a better 55 from someplace outside the rust belt?

The diesel and 5 speed are worth something. The 55's are good for someone who wants a weld and fabricate project.

Cannibalized one 55 and combine the 2 into 1?

Wheeling the FJ Cruiser has spoiled me a bit. Power steering and a much better ride is nice in my old age. But I miss wheeling the 55 with bragging rights on arm strong steering and a one of a kind ride.

The 60 is kind of in the middle, power steering, A/C, a better than a 55 ride but still old style tough.

I do have a parts 40 that could be resurrected using the front axle from the 55 to gain disc brakes. It is lifted 6", just needs some TLC and tires to make it road worthy.

I know I'll get opinions, it's what I'm asking for. So, please, your 2 cents.

Thanks.

Dam Joe,

Good news is I got what you need ...bad news is...it in Portland...Oregon. Maybe we can figure a creative way to section this little piggies core support and send the pieces east cost effectively.

thats the wrong kind of rot Parts pig is the only way to go on that one.

That's my feeling also. If it was only that 1 spot but there is rust on the firewall and door areas as well. Fix one spot and the next weak link will make itself known.

So, will fixing it give me another couple of years? It may be worth it. It's not meant to be a show pig, just something I wheel on a regular basis.

Funny, how emotions get wrapped up into things.

Too bad it's not Portland Maine. Just cut below the headlights, box it and send UPS?

Trouble is I probably need the whole body.
