I found out that my engine wiring harness is OK, after pulling off the factory insulation.....

I remembered that when I bought the 80 that the PO had said they had to take the dist. out several times to get it to run. I thought it was strange, but it was running OK at the time so I bought it.....duh....
Now I am thinking that maybe the engine miss is due to a timing issue. I have a FSM and checked the timing by connecting TE1 and E1 on the OBD1 diag. port. I have an old fashioned timing light....not the inductive clip on the plug wire type. so I made my connection at # 1 at the dist. Seemed to work OK.
My timing was off the scale at about 25-30 degrees advanced at 600 RPM !!!!!! I get it on # 1 and mark it for reference, then take the dist out and carefully move it one cog and replace it.
It barely runs. I try this over and over. There did not seem to be a dist position that I could get that works
