Thanks, for all the input. I'm going to stick with the stock gears in the t-case and save some money for the rest of the project. I think that between the 43:1 low and the 97:1 double low I should be good enough. I can always change my mind in the long run and I will never know for sure until I get this thing all back together. I think the 200:1 might cause me to run higher in the rpm range than I want to use it in. I ordered my toybox adapters today.

I'm now running a 350/465/203/Orion combo. 274:1 ultimate crawl. I've already used this ratio a couple of times.

More importantly having a 2:1 low range and an 4:1 low range and a combo 8:1 low range give me a lot more flexibility than a pair of 2:1 low range boxes. On normal trails I run I spend most of the time in 2:1. 4:1 gets used, but not nearly as much. When I get into the deep brush covered hummocks that's when the 8:1 low range comes into play.

Mark...

seems like a SM465 (6.55:1) to a Rock Box (2.2:1) to a Orion (3:1) with 4.88:1 Gears should give a final ratio o 211:1 and with disengaging the Rock Box, a final ratio of 96:1. Am i doing that right? From what you guys are saying, both options of 96:1 and 211:1 with the same setup seems like it would be ideal. combine that with a 2f and 37" - 39" tires...any comments?

Adds a lot to the cost....

So far very happy with my setup. Not too low, not too high... With a motor that makes good low end torque I couldnt see going deeper than 120-130-ish even with the most technical of trails....

With a 4-banger 200-ish to one is more common and does get used from time to time...

Autos you can cut those numbers in half due to having a torque converter...

This is my experiance, take it for what its worth...

correct me if I'm wrong but IIRC the Orion is 4:1 not 3:1 ;)

Yep

The 3:1 is the most common since they are out of the 4:1 gears most of the time.

4:1 was the only Orion option when I got mine, we didn't have choices like you kids to day have. You go what you got and you liked it by gum.

So I added a 2.28:1 Toy Box, because AA only sold their Rock box with 3.44:1 reduction.

I felt, and time has proven me correct, that 4:1 was to low for most trail conditions. The 2.28 reduction works great most of the time. The 4:1 is great for most of the tougher stuff. As a novice stupid low is great for technical stuff, slowing things down makes it a lot less stressful.
Overall I'm very happy with the way my rig is set up.
