Cranking but not catching

The cap has nothing to do with the resistance readings of the pick up coils. However, I'm uncertain as to what readings you're seeing and how proficient you are with a meter and electrical diagnostics in general.

A replacement distributor is certainly a possibility, but I would source a used OEM one from a reputable parts supplier like @arcteryx jason@cruiseryard.com.
Any 3FE distributor will do, from an FJ62 or FJ80.

I'm uncertain myself :hmm: But working on it!

I took out the dissy, cleaned everything under the rotor and reinstalled it. Then realized I could have probably done all of that cleaning without pulling the dang thing. But anyway, the LC's firing up better than it was. My guess is that the distributor does need to be replaced. As much as I hate to throw in a towel, I'm thinking I'm gonna take it to a locally hailed toyota mechanic and get his opinion. I will report my findings for future reference.

I took the LC to the shop Monday and stopped by today to check on it. The mechanic said he thinks the distributor is ok so he's been back probing to find the problem. He said there may be a problem with the ignition. Ever heard of an ignition causing no spark?

Is there an anti-theft device installed? When I got my '94, it had the factory security option, with an "ignition disable" key. The previous owner neglected to tell/show me just where under the dash that key was, and I inadvertently bumped it loose with my knee when I hopped in one day. Turned the keys, engine cranked, but nothing happened. Tried again, still nothing. After checking everything under the hood (and explaining to a very irate Mrs that I was going to be late picking her up), I found the loose disable key. Pushed it back in place, turned the keys, and it fired right up!

Put a new dissy in about a week ago and she's been running great ever since. I'm worried that I may have weakened my new battery by running it down with all the no start cranking though. Some times when I go to start her up, she'll turn over once or twice and and briefly stop like the battery is dead. The dome lights will dim and then she fires up and runs like a champ. Thanks for your input guys.:clap:
