Craftsmanship

There are a few people out there that have true craftsmanship, they are becoming more rare than they used to be mainly because of costs and in part because of automation. For all of our technological advances I wonder how much much we sacrifice of ourselves and our personal advances.
I am in awe of both the current artist and even more so of the original artist that created these peaces. Originally created in Japan, a country that puts quality and patience before anything else.

You can blame Walmart and China all you want but ultimately it is the consumers fault. The consumer wants to pay less. I may be of Dutch heritage but I can't stand shopping at Walmart (I have shopped there I would estimate 15-20 times). I prefer to pay more for better quality. Pretty sure most people on this site have shopped at Walmart or Canadian Tire because of price not quality. Unfortunately we are getting a Walmart and a Canadian Tire in Tsawwassen. So much for getting local made products and small shops from there on. Let's give away our jobs so we can get cheaper product. Seems like a short term gain to me.

Hate to admit it but I will probably be shopping here one day. Hopefully I can avoid the Walmart temptation.

Yep- Also our Western sense of entitlement where there is less emphasis on self improvement or individual effort. I mean for a great percentage of our work force, you advance yourself through 'collective bargaining' or 'Tenure' rather than individual effort... Marginalizes the best and brightest or sends them to other markets where they might be appreciated...

I think Tsawwassen mills is just going to be a megastore and a casino after a short while...
