I have never been in the fall. I heard the crowds are terrible. Any insight on this?

Never experienced that myself. We used to come back through Bat Cave, NC each year after rafting in West Virginia. Always in October, but I don't recall any crowds.

They closed the best trail there years ago- if you've seen Last of the Mohicans it's where they fight at the end and send guys falling over the cliff. It was a pretty intense trail.

I just read that after it was sold to the State Park they have a plan to reopen that trail to the top of the waterfall
