I read somewhere that if I'm trying to line up the TDC Mark on the fly wheel with the bell housing pointer, that the flywheel should be turned in one direction only.
Is this true? If so, what's the proper direction?

Hi, if iirc, there's only one way the flywheel will line up when you install it . It has a metal piece that fits into the back of the engine. Good luck, ty

Let me clarify. I read you can only turn flywheel cw or ccw, can't remember which. I found this odd. Flywheel is already installed correctly.

I thought we specialise in horrendously involved technical multipart answers to simple questions... Or that what you're saying .... (Sorry - My head's a swerling from too much Xmas cheer.)

From the drivers seat the engine turns counterclockwise. If you are looking over the right front fender into the engine compartment at the hole in the bell housing above the starter the flywheel will appear to rotate clockwise.

thanks all. stupid me didnt even think about just cranking the engine.Merry Xmas everyone.

I always look at the blades of the radiator fan to confirm which direction the engine rotates (because it'll always be sucking the air through)...
