Your under inflated I ran the same size and model tires on a similar build 80 series at 44-46 psi never had an issue. Had a similar issue to what your having on a 17 T4r with a set of AT3’s that the dealer lowered the air pressure to 35psi at a service and I didn’t catch it, and it cooked the tires in few hundred miles.

I have a set of Cooper S/T Maxx 285/75/16 on a 2001 Toyota 4runner. 2.5 Icon coils up front and Bilstein 5000's in back(2.5 lift). i have had trouble with them cupping on shoulder lugs. I have to X-pattern rotate to keep it evened out at least every 5k or under. It wasn't bad in the beginning, but as i got toward the last 1/3 to 3/4 of tire life, they have gotten loud, worse, and tough to keep evened out. Really like the tire offroad. Does well in Mud, sand, and water, better than BFG K02 which I have run a lot in the past. Want another set, but concerned about this cupping issue happening again. i run at 30psi generally. i wonder if they need a lot more pressure to prevent this cupping. Anywhere in the 40's is a rough teeth chattering ride.
What tire pressures are anyone else running on these tires?

I'm running 35psi and my cupping has been mitigated with regular counter clockwise rotation every 5K miles.

However, I am ready to replace these tires. Both lateral traction on slopes and the mud performance are severely lacking. IMO, the middle doesn't have enough horizontal grooves for proper mud clearance and gets packed up quickly.

In addition, both the STT Pro and the ST Maxx took a tremendous amount of weight to balance them properly. I've had the ST Maxx balanced 4 times due to vibrations on the highway.

It's funny to see all of this because I love my other Cooper tires I've run, but the one set of ST Maxx that we put on the Sequoia cupped on the shoulders even with a decent rotation schedule. Should have just gone with the STT Pros again, but now I know
The STT Pros were like velcro on the trails. The only performance issue I had with them was at the beach. Instead of rolling over the sand, they wanted to dig to China.
