Hi all,

Just changed my radiator today (with a good one) as well as a couple of hoses, thermostat, fan clutch. Ive got some coolant weeping from overflow tank hose as per picture (which I did not change, but was removed to attach to new radiator. )
The engine is off now and it still weeps lightly as the coolant is travelling back to the radiator, it’s not much but it weeps. I’ve also noticed after my first drive that the overflow tank cap was off, but I thought I put it on! I closed it then and drove another 10k and noticed it now had stayed closed but there was some coolant that seemed to have forced its way through it and sitting on top of overflow bottle (few drops again). Not sure how as the level in the overflow is low enough with the engine hot (second picture).

Could it be from a bit of air trapped in the system as the flush was just done? Should I give it a day or two or change that hose/clamp. I just never saw coolant around here before the coolant job.

FYI. No bubbling in it with engine on…no white smoke, coolant in oil or the opposite. Engine overheated recently but not badly (3/4 to the red) which did a very small slight crack in radiator upper tank hence the job.

Any help greatly appreciated as I have a long trip and can’t have any coolant dripping from anywhere

Replying to myself but my strategy would be to change that hose or cut it, get a proper tension clamp, and see if it stops weeping. I just hope I’m not going to find coolant everywhere in the morning as it tries to flow back into the rad.

I was hoping it could just have been air in the system, I guess Ill have to postpone the drive and do that tomorrow

just replace that little hose if the original one or use a new clamp. I used a similar clamp as the ones on the throttle body coolant lines on mine, just install with the prongs down a bit so you dont catch you hand/arm on it when working on the engine, they bite!

these type

thanks for the reply! Yeah I’ll get onto that tomorrow. I think that old hose was nice and tight until it actually got moved (or the radiator end is slightly smaller than previous one)

Have noticed overnight not as much coolant as usual returned into radiator (it was still high ish but i know its meant to be at the top - most likely because air was going through that little hose preventing coolant from being sucked back in as much as it should)
Ive moved the clamp this morning and put a zip tie and it seems to have fixed the leak, Ill replace it in the next few days anyway but this worked.

Now regarding the fan clutch, does anyone know of this is normal:
-resistance when turning (gets looser when hot) - all good
-lots of air cold start then goes down - all good i think
-Turn off engine fan should stop turning immediately? not good - keeps spinning for 3 seconds, maybe 4. Couple of revolutions. I thought it was meant to shut off with the engine! It was just changed.

did you refill with correct viscous oil?

proper functioning clutch fan on the 1fz should stop pretty much immediately when engine is turned off hot
did you change with an OEM or Aisin clutch?

No not OEM as they did not have it in stock. Is it worth replacing it with an Aisin then even though it’s brand new? Or Dayco?

The fan clutch that was on there before was doing the same, and I think it was OEM. It has some resistance though and I can feel its disengaging on cold start after 30 sec as the air goes from very high to low when it realises the engine is cold.

This is how it turns off though

I just watched a video of someone who just replaced their clutch with an Aisin on youtube, and it also takes 3 seconds from when the belt stops moving to the fan getting to a full stop. Do you maybe have a video of yours working proprerly?

This is how it spins when I push it hard - stops instantly, definitely not freewheeling.

Just don’t want to do smth OTT and replace it again if it’s actually doing its job

Absolutely replace it with an AISIN FCT-004. That is the OEM fan clutch for the 1FZ-FE.
