Wait a second, if you are using the stock AC compressor, why not use the stock AC button? Not only will that engage the clutch when you press the button in, but the light will light up and it will send a signal to the AC idle up vacuum switch to rev the motor up. That was a no-brainer for me, why did that option get passed over?

You don't have to wire anything, aside from a pressure switch, should you use the stock compressor control.

Wouldn't work for those of us who are still intending to use our stock A/C :D

Though a lighted toggle switch is a very good idea.

 Why would you do that? AC is overrated.:p

Good News I did all the piping for the OBA using the stock pump tonight. I'm gonna let the blue block I used on the Piping dry for a day or two, then fill it up with some lubricant and test it out. What should I fill the inline oilier with?

That's a great question, I do not know. Post up some pictures?

Here Are them Pics:

Top is the fittings I used on the compressor, Bottom is the layout for the suction and discharge ports. I don't have a Picture of it all wired up though. Hands were covered in Blue Block.

Oil Type

I have heard of people using 10w-30 in the lubricator, would that work? It would be super convenient, the shop I have my truck at has a few drums of it.

Well I got the OBA all hooked up and tested it. Stock pump by itself doesn't have a power to run air tools. I haven't Put the tank in yet, but it does a great job with filling up tires. Here are some pics of the engine compartment. The only thing left to do is run the line for the tank.

Ok, so the pressure is good for air tools, just not the flow. I had the same problem with my Co2 tank.

Yep that's the problem. I tried revving the engine up a bit, but it just doesn't put out enough air. I'm gonna keep it for now, you really can't beat the fact its already mounted. But if it dies, I'm definitely going to throw a york in.

I know this is an old thread, however I thought it would be a good Idea to post up some more results.
After some more testing I found that the stock compressor is powerful enough to run my 1/2" Impact gun for short bursts, enough to remove lug nuts.
Just rotary tools like the die grinder aren't very effective.

That's awesome. I can't wait to design an OBA system with a junked A/C compressor on my 62. Still want to mount it in place of my smog pump too. That'd be a great spot for it.

Did you end up using 10W-30 for oil?

I plan on doing this with my 60 also. The guy who helped out Front Range 4X4 with his setup is fabbing me a bumper in 2 weeks. After that We'll see about the OBA system. If I still lived in Arizona I'd keep the AC.
