Ok...love my Solaire grill but the nylon bag it came with just isn't "Dan proof"; and I need something to protect it and the inside of my AT Horizon as I'm ripping down the washboard :D. On our DV trip last weekend a friend of mine, Jereme, mentioned maybe a Pelican or Storm case would be better.

I've searched but haven't found a size close enough to the overall dimensions of the grill: 21"Wx12"Hx13"D.

I saw an ATV rear rack bag that was made of a very heavy duty rubberized nylon and it was padded too. But the sizes are too big for my grill.

I figured someone here might have something to offer up.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Dan,

Have you thought about taking a stroll through an Army surplus store? The military used boxes for everything, there might be some old medical box or something that is just the right size. Remember whatever box they used had to be private proof. Might have to add your own foam or not, depends.

Jack

Thanks for the ideas everyone...just got back from hunting/overlanding new areas...otherwise my thanks would have come sooner ;).

I'll start checking these out!

If you find something please post up. I have the same grill.

I was thinking of making a tight fitting box out of plywood or aluminum. A good excuse to get a spool gun for my welder.

Zodi makes a padded nylon case that is exactly the right size. However I'm waiting for them to confirm if it their measurements are ID or OD.

If I had access to a shear (well...closer than Ione anyway ;)) I like your aluminum idea!

Dan, keep us posted. That grill looks so sweet I may pick one up for next spring! :hhmm:

The grill works GREAT! I have to get down, per Jack's (locrwln) idea, to the local surplus store and see what they have. But a couple other things more pressing pushed this little project to the back burner for awhile.

The Zodi #2034 bag (http://www.zodi.com/web-content/Consumer/zodiaccessories.html) measures 21"x12"x14" (external dimensions but the walls aren't very thick...and for $25 it might be worth the gamble) might just might work. I've been using a couple of their smaller padded bags for other stuff I haul in the trailer and they're held up just fine.

I'll post up once I get it solved.

Do any of you who own this grill have problems with the regulator freezing up? My regulator will freeze more than occasionally. Helps if I run it on low/med for a few minutes before turning it to High but still doesn't always stop it from happening.

That's never happened to me. THe regulator does not look to be anything other than average quality, but no issues.

Has never happened to me either. The only small gripe I have is trying to get it to stay lit when its windy (easily fixed by shielding it on the leeward side of the truck). But once the 'burner' gets pink hot it doesn't care how windy it is.

Ok...I ordered the Zodi padded bag. I'll report back as soon as it gets here and I test fit it.

FYI: The Solaire fits into the Zodi padded bag perfectly! I first put the grill into a HD contractor type trash bag to contain any residual fat from grilling and slipped it right into the Zodi bag. The benefit of this bag is that: Its relatively cheap ($25 + shipping) and its padded (unlike the Solaire zippered bag).

Not as good as a sealed hard case but it should be considerably better than the one it came with.

Just happened to stumble across this Coleman bag that might work with the Solaire grill.

It measures 23" x 14" x 17" while you said the Solaire measures 21"Wx13"Dx12"H.

The bottom of this bag is designed to carry the Coleman 5430 or 9921A750 stoves. Might get heavy with both stove and grill in there though. It looks like the sides aren't padded though so maybe no better than the original case.
