Robbie, sorry for your loss there. That sucks.

I am wondering about the very high level of h/g issues you are seeing. 24 in two years is a ton based on this board's experiences? Just how many 80's does Slee service?? Were these all failures or are some of them preventative maintenance?? I would think a lot of yr customers would lose the h/g on long drives and not necessarily be able to get the truck to Slee to get the work done by you.

Anyway, I wonder if maybe altitude is an issue that contributes.

Robbie, real sorry to hear the engine situation. :( Not sure what to say, but sorry for the setback. We all know you will have it back better than ever super soon; just trying to see the positive in things :-\ but still this stinks! :(

Work hard play hard and s*** happens. I do not know what really happen until I tear into it. I do know that a oil pressure guage that is only good to tell me if I have oil pressure is not good enough. I have for some time seen my oil pressure fall off after 4k rpm and did in the past hook a guage (mechanical) to the system and I never saw it fall off. So i assumed that all was ok and worked the engine as hard as I would with the oil pressure falling off. it will not happen again. Engine still runs great, no knocks but lots of flakes in the oil filter. I was running the Royal purple with about 7k miles on it. I ahve in the past been going 10k miles oil changes for the last 16 years in my vechicles, I have worked them hard with redlines all the time. I was useing Castrol syntec 5w-50 with no problems. I will post later what I find when I tear into the bottom end. I will do this first to see what Has failed and how bad the crank is. If needed I will then pull the engine.
The pump should not run dry with 8 qts in the sump, oil returns are not pluged (fresh engine 20 k miles). Gear driven ring and rotor style pump should pump goobs( new ring and rotor) will have to hook a oil pressure guage and work the truck after.
As for the numbers we see at the shop of crusiers I would have to ask christo. Some HG problems are local ones, us catching the problem before it leaves them stranded. I have done a few HG in prepartion for a supercharger and found problems that the cooling system was taking care of because it was in great shape and was handleing it. Only a couple of HG have been cross country trips that have created problems for the owners.
I will miss the YZZB5 filter with not bypass, I did not let anything past the filtration media. It is a shame toyota does not carry that filter any more. later robbie
