I’m trying to separate the gray plastic rocker plate from the black base. However I have not been able to squeeze the round gray tabs enough without fear of breaking it. Has anyone successfully separated the two pieces? What’s the secret? Please refer to attached photos.

What’s the end goal? New turn signal assemblies are available as a number of threads on mud about 4Runner assembly swaps.

End goal is to have an original blinker switch that will last. I have the aftermarket in there now and it has worn out after a few years. My rig is my daily driver, the aftermarket makes me look like the guy that leaves the blinkers on all day...

I've had success with similar fasteners by pushing firmly with a socket of a size that acts on the tapered edges of the tabs and squeezes them together.

Thank you Eurasiaoverland!
I will give that a try!

Was able to locate the extremely rare 10mm socket and separated the plastic cam with some persuasion.
Thanks for the suggestions!
