Thanks for the kinds words!
The photos in that thread show everything in place and turned on. More often than not, much of that gear is packed away and only pulled out and plugged in when needed. The computer monitor for example can be unplugged easily removed and packed out of the way. The iphone is no longer mounted up front. The GPS is only mounted when needed and the various radios are only turned on and operating when they are needed.
The photos show everything turned on all at once and that can get distracting, LOL! The cluttered look comes from adding new things to the set up over time as opposed to designing the interior to house all of this gear at the same time. I would do it somewhat differently and cleaner if I had to start over, but it does work fairly well and is very secure and stable, so it's hard to mess with something that works, even though its not pretty.
As far as the rear view mirror camera. I "believe" mine is the Audiovox-RVMPKG3. This being the current offering. I'm not 100% though, as its been a few years since I purchased it.
The camera has been located in various places over the years. I had it mounted at the back of the roof rack, but the rack is now gone. It was attached to the license plate at one point.
Currently, it's attached to a high power magnet, which is attached to the rear top of the roof. That seems to give the best view.
But to be honest, I don't use it much. If I absolutely have to see out the back, I'll turn it on and it's better than having no view, but back up cameras leave a lot to be desired.
If I was to do it over again, I'd look for the highest resolution I could find and a bigger monitor. But then again, I'm not sure I'd spend the money required to have that. Newer systems might be better. You'll want wide angle for a wider view, but the perception will be that things are much farther away than they are and that's not good for using it to back up.
If I do use it to back it, I rely on the side view mirrors as the primary and just check the back up the camera to get an idea of what's directly behind me.
