Several members met for supper at the Pantry Restaurant at 6:00 pm including: Gary T., Jeff S., Marcin C., Mike M., Chris H., Barry P., Garry C., Phil S., and Bill W. The food was good, so that may be the regular from now on.
The CC meeting began informally at 7:30 with two new FJ Cruisers parked outside, owned by Greg H. and Drew E.; that got lots of attention.
The meeting was called to order by 8:30 by Steve T. Members in attendance were: Gary T., Jeff S., Marcin C., Mike M., Chris H., Barry P., Garry C., Phil S., Bill W., Steve T., Martin S., Derek A., Jim C., Paul K., Clarence G., Dan M., Greg B., Steve S., Al D., Craig E., Jan H. , and new members Malcolm M. FJ80, Wayne I. FJ45, Greg H. FJ Cruiser, Drew E. FJ Cruiser.
Guests in attendance: Traci D., Nils K. (Both former members)
We all welcome our new members and the renewal of previous member Al D.
FOR THOSE CC MEMBERS THAT ARE LATE PAYING THEIR 2006 CLUB DUES, PLEASE DEAL WITH THIS RIGHT AWAY, WE NEED THE MONEY TO SPONSOR CLUB ACTIVITIES, ESPECIALLY THE AUGUST CRUISER DAYS PREPARATIONS. THERE ARE AT LEAST SEVEN OUT THERE AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
First order of business was the concern everybody had for Rob Millson. He was unable to be present tonight and we all wish him a full recovery over the next year. He is out of the hospital and staying at his dad’s for the moment. He can be reached on his cell phone now. We passed the hat around to help with Rob’s June rent and most members contributed generously. Thumbs down to the guy I noticed who put nothing in the hat but dug out at least $20. for raffle tickets later. We also passed a resolution to contribute some money from the club treasury to also help Rob. See Phil S for details if you would like to contribute.
Next we discussed the long weekend trip to Churn Creek Protected Area. Details have been discussed on
www.IH8Mud.com on the Coastal Cruiser thread, or you can call Steve T., Bill W., or Mike M for more info. We are expecting a good turnout with at least a dozen vehicles attending. Please take note of the following:
- It will be chilly at night, especially if we decide to camp the second night at higher elevations.
- We might see some snow at the higher elevations, hopefully not at a campsite.
- It may be very windy with outflow winds coming down the Canyon. Last year three cottonwood trees blew down beside our campsite, so keep that in mind when you pitch your tents.
- VHF radio frequency for our club will be 143.185 MHz for chatter. Remember that outside parties may hear what we are saying. In case of emergency rescue, the RCMP frequencies are 149.1100 and 149.2600 in Clinton. Those who do not have VHF radios, please bring your CBs and/or Walkie Talkies.
- A sign labeled CC will be posted at the entrance to the campsite area.
- After you cross the bridge over the Fraser, loop around and head South downstream and keep to the left along the river until you see our sign.
- Bring your camera for sure.
Next order of business was discussion of Cruiser Days August 26 & 27. Toyota Trails will announce it in the next edition. We need EVERYBODY to pass the word around and participate in bringing in sponsors for prizes. Details of the poster and letter to sponsors are on
www.IH8Mud.com Coastal Cruiser Club Thread or contact Clarence, Allstone, or Steve T.
Its only 3 months away, so let’s all pull together to the contribute time and effort needed to make this even more successful than last year.
This issue of Toyota Trails has a great article on the River Shiver Run written by CC member Charla Downey. She wrote beautifully and her pictures were outstanding, especially the shot of Norm Fisher in his rig. Incidentally, the May TT Cruiser calendar page is featured by Charla’s Agent Orange BJ42. Well done Charla!
Another item discussed is a Rock Slider order being planned from Trail Gear Ltd. in the U.S.
Dan (EBI) is organizing a parts order. Sliders for trucks from 40’s , 60’s, & 80’s are $135USD + shipping. 1.5” tubing, bullet proof. Sizes – 4runner, Tacoma, Extended cab*, regular pick-up
fits a 60 or an 80. This item may not be available for 70 Series Cruisers without modification around the exhaust system up front.
Finally, the raffle was won by the following:
Sawzall and also the rescue gear/sex toy by Greg B.
Ratcheting Wrenches by Wayne I.
Heat gun by Craig E.
Butane roach lighter by Dan
Bill will go shopping for the next month’s prizes.
The meeting broke up early around 10:00 with rattling, smoking (Clarence?), noisy diesel beaters clattering off into the haze, while nearby at the timeless big river, thousands salmon bravely struggled onward upstream against wads of toilet paper, prophylactics and sewage on their rendezvous with destiny at the Churn Creek Protected Area streams.
