co 2 gas

hi all i know someone can help me here because your all smart guys and gals.my question is ,is co2 gas for mig welding the same gas that some of you guys use to air up your tires?.if so what can i expect to pay for a tank? in the 20#size

Yes they are the same gas, although some prefer a 25% Argon / 75% CO2 mix for welding over 100% CO2.

Rates to fill vary, but will probably be around $20.00 if you own your tank.

i bougth my new aluminum tank at www.beveragefactory.com it was about $75 for an alum 10# tank. the 20# is not that much more. i get it filled at a fire protection store. they fill CO2 extinguishers. it is about $15

My cost for filling CO2 has been rising. Was around $16 a couple of years ago but now they want $20 I think. It's a large place that fills tons of fire safety stuff.

They blame the rising cost on the cost of fuel to transport the CO2.
